Frosty dry fields

Would need a week of minus temperatures to go anywhere near the fields atm. Had nearly 1150mm of rain since the beginning of August, it just hasn't stopped.
Did manage to get some slurry out on to one of my drier fields with the umbilical, the others were just too wet. Grass is still growing though !

That looks one tidy farm! The Masseys will be immaculate as ever I suppose?
I am just looking at buying an identical 1.5 metre front press to the one you have, does it do the job ok?
Kind regards.
Haha, thanks. Mucking out, but don't like muck everywhere!
Had the press couple years. Yeah, pleased with it. Can't manoeuvre a full 3m on the front with our small tracks, so this the next best thing. They're not too expensive either. I bought this one from a sale near Chorley. Online bidding. Photo showed it with a rack of weights on. Found out later they weren't included, yet no mention. Played merry hell, and got a chunk knocked off, so was quite cheap ;)
Found out it's handy for a bit of front ballast when I've got the 12 tonne bunning on the back too. Not one for unnecessary front weight, but certain times..

Totally agree that it should be a day to havecas much time with family but with the current weather I wouldn't have blamed anyone for getting a shed or 2 cleaned out . Dry days are rare at the moment .
If i was under pressure to get muck or slurry out on Xmas day i would do it if the forecast was back to wet.
Plenty of time to spend with family on boxing day or after dark

If you are only cultivating about 3m anyway like we do, the 1.5m press does that piece between the tractor wheels which have ‘cultivated’ anyway; so essentially you have done one 3m pass before any rear mounted machine does its
work. So IYCWIM in our job you don’t gain much by having a 3m front press rather than the 1.5m?

My thoughts exactly. If it's out of grass, like that was, I might nip over the ploughing with the 6m rolls too. As I used to before I bought the press. Not as if I'm doing 100's of acres anyway...

Its just another day
Animals need tended etc
Wasnt even a holiday in scotland till the sevrnties
I started a new job on a farm in November 73. As I had only been there a few weeks and it was not a public holiday I worked xmas day. Didn't make much odds to me then! New Year though, two days off if I remember correctly, an alcoholic haze from start to finish!
