So on the annual herd TB test a few months ago,we had 11 IR's,on the retest 10 went clear and 1
Went down as a reactor, yesterday we done the retest on whole herd and 3 of the original 11 have gone down again [emoji35] to cap it off this morning I've just opened a letter to say the one that was taken was negative in lesions and a negative culture test!!! I've now asked for the 3 to be taken away but they want to retest them again, some days you just wanna scream

It sounds awful to be stuck with such an issue as TB. All of us are aware of the stress and pain this causes .... You have all our sympathies I'm sure. Don't let it get you down for too long. jtt

It drives you nuts had a clear test back along then the first load of barren cows one had lesions next test had one reactor rest clear. Load up some barren cows and hay ho more lesions not such a pain this time. Looking one the bright side I thought you were making reference to your third date when I opened this up ;)

Haha no that went well [emoji6] just about made it back in time for milking this morning [emoji106]

I've been closed down 6 times , twice by IRs going down twice. Only ever had one confirmed case (lesions).
We now sell all IRs at the first possible opportunity ( direct to slaughter), if we can do it without triggering a herd retest. They are just too much of a risk to us.

Sounds like a horrible situation to be in. I'm curious; why can't you get rid of the three IR's? I'm not saying you can, I'm just trying to learn.

Was your recent retest done at severe interpretation?

My condolences at your situation.

The test should have been a severe interpretation , because of the Reactor in the retested 11.

But that Reactor was negative at slaughter and culture.

Common sense would be to re-interpret the test , at standard interpretation , and see if the 3 I.R's are clear.

Do you know if you've much Johnes in your herd? If that was your annual test presumably you had a good number of months prior to that when you could have got some tests done?
I do think the edge area TB testing regime (gamma, severe interpretation & 2 clear tests needed before they stop) seems to be better at clearing it out - until the next re-infection, of course, if your source if wildlife. Given that the one that went as a reactor had gone from IR to reactor so still fairly early infection, no real surprise that no lesions.

Sorry to hear we have tb quite badly ourselves so i'm well aware of the pain in the backside that it is. Yes they don't always take IR's, and if you insist they are taken they will only pay meat value compensation on them which is a complete joke as not many farmers can afford to do let them go half price.

We are in a not dissimilar situation.
Thing I am somewhat frustrated by is the difference between the degree of lumps we have got used to finding in Autumn - loads, and big . And the minimal numbers of tiny testing in The Spring.
If it wasn't for the severe interpretation we would have sailed through full retesting.
Do others notice any discrepancies with such timings for the test?

I am thinking of asking for a blood test instead of skin test, then you can almost be sure they have taken all those who have tb, not just most of them. I have gone down with IRs reacting and the min vet visited me last week saying we can now request a bloodtest to make sure we clear out the herd. It has to be done in conjunction with increasing biosecurity on the farm ie raising mineral licks so badgers can't get to them. He says I will be in a badger cull zone soon so it will be worth doing. Anyone else had a blood test for tb instead of skin test? what did you think of it?

Our vet said never ask for the blood test quite likely to take half your herd.
