part of me is quite looking foward to it...the other part is terrified :scratchhead:

it'll be ok if prices stay good BUT if prices fall food production will plummet

i've still not heard if my 'wildlife offer' has been successful:scratchhead: ..if it is and i fully implement it my bps would be replaced but my ag output would fall 70 odd %
I think the wildlife angle could be the best bet.

Can't see future governments taxing normal people to pay rich landowners to farm or rent land out to farmers. Tax cuts are the new normal.

Can see future governments happy to see cheap imported food (and lower standards) at the expense of farmers' livelyhoods. We're a very small minority and anyway cheap food is another new normal.

The public have forgotten about food security, they chuck away 33% of what they buy. The ruling elite don't seem too concerned either.

Both the public and the ruling classes do seem to care about the environment though, but of course after Brexit, Corona virus and continuing low taxes, there might not be that much money sloshing around for that either.

It all works very well until any shortages start to show up.

Most big grants are fiddled anyway so that the 40% is enough to pay for the majority of the job
Really? So what will the financial gain be even if this is true? Answer, there is none. So in no way does it make up for anything lost from other schemes. Just more hoops, red tape and unproductive work for you to while your time away with.

That is about the rate of reduction expected though, isn't it? Phasing out by 2027. Possibly a bit faster than some commentators were forecasting - but tied into payments for CSS and ELMS?
Well I guess higher cuts for those with the largest BPS explains where they will get sufficient money to fund the initial round of ELMS Those of us under the £30K cut off could yet be net beneficiaries of the switch from BPS to ELMS....

Reductions on standard sfp will be topped back up with grants etc for water quality ,tree planting etc and standard sfp phased out. Winners and losers . I was hoping sub would be stopped altogether tbh but what would they frighten us with if they did.
fines and custodial sentences of course, why else do you comply with any legislation..... it is not because of the threat of having your good behaviour payment withheld at Christmas

They also care about jobs. Especially now that retail is a busted flush.
All you have to do is explain to Govt that the most secure jobs, the most environmentally sustainable jobs, the most tax generating jobs, are those that are based in a vibrant UK food economy, and you can all stop fretting about subsidy money.

Looking on the bright side, (I know not everyone can do that) we might get to fish our own waters!🤷
Fishing rights holding up a deal is a queer one, 25% of uk owned quota is leased to foreign boats so winning the argument isnt going to see uk owned family boats making a comeback, it just means increased income for non fishing uk quota owners. Also the majority of fish caught in our waters arent the type of fish we eat! We export species of fish caught in our waters and import fish caught in other parts of the world.

difference is Europe may cut subs but they will keep their import tariffs in place. We are set to have our left legs kicked out from under us and then watch as our right legs are hacked away over over 7 years

Withholding money is a far better regulatory tool than spending money to take people to court in the hope of winning.
I have had this argument many times, I just do not buy it, I call bulls**t on that. Which other industry in the UK does the government enforce legal compliance by withholding money to?

Yes I agree and I always reckon that the people who buy and sell to and from farmers are at most risk from a collapse in agricultural production.

I understand the new CAP over there will have a reduced budget, but nowhere near the extent of the drop being planned here. They are also apparently intent on keeping a degree of direct payments to reduce the impact of price volatility.

Our lot are intent on cr*pping on our industry from a height, as they have been trying to push the whole of the EU to do at every single round of CAP reforms for decades.😡

‘Hurrah’ I hear, from all those owner occupied farms bought & paid for by Daddy already, but there are an awful lot of farmers all over the UK that rely on it.
