Update received on Friday last week:

“Underground cabling & jointing in issue with Openreach cabling team. This is now fully Rodded and Roped and ready for Cabling, OH allocator has been chased to make sure work is in hand to replace Decayed pole and Tree cutting.as per survey results”

So yeah 2020 here we come :ROFLMAO:

Same time my landline will get fixed!

New year update....

“Openreach advised that the civils to clear blockages has been delayed due to the council advising that there is a Christmas embargo. Permits were granted for 06/01/19.”

Still waiting on a pole to get replaced too...just need a well timed winter storm :p

Bugger.
But looking back I see my post on 30th October has turned out to be pretty accurate :(
I’m fairly relaxed about it. I knew it was going to take time  Saying that, I’m pretty sure someone, somewhere is making some of this stuff up!

In early December update was “...now fully Rodded and Roped and ready for Cabling”

Yet one month later we have “...to clear blockages”.

Can you fully rod and rope through a blockage? Is it likely to become blocked after it’s rodded and roped? Hmmm sounds like utter ballcocks to me.:whistle:

Maybe farmers should be managing the utility contractors, might get the jobs done on time & on budget
The only way these turkeys stay afloat, isn’t through management finesse that’s for sure! They just charge waaaaaaay over the odds to cover all the mistakes, delays, duplications, inefficiencies and fudge ups.

The rest of us would have gone broke long ago.

....and yet they still get the contracts, work etc. (admittedly they're too big to fail also)

errrm - Carrilion ?

Very true! However I think if Openreach or one of the power distribution firms went pop it might be harder to find a replacement in a hurry, but I would be happy to see such a thing happen.

I think plenty of government subcontractors like Carillion....such as Amey etc. are running a potential knife edge. The local governments now struggle to function without them.....and the contracts just seem to get shared around in turn - one takes it on, charges a fortune, does a shocking job, gets kicked out, the next promises better, never quite keeps those promises etc etc. Almost like some farm lets/FBTs/CFAs.

The trouble is without one firm or another doing the job, the job (to whatever standard!) would never get done.

What is the rough price to get FTTP installed, assuming you met the cost of running a cable yourself?
You can’t run the cable yourself. If their other infrastructure is underground, providing its your land or you have the necessary wayleaves, you can install ducting and ropes for them to pull their cabling through.

Ultimately its their infrastructure up to and including the ONT in your house or premises.

Here are some prices from one of the users on the thinkbroadband forum tracking the (free) desktop and (paid for) post survey quotes for FTTP on Demand installs.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QFkK1sLBFQjlGgTwHKUI3aJSdNH-lgFsQ71SMxarWBA/htmlview

Note that FTTP is quite a different beast from a cost perspective to FTTPoD.

In this area -
We (about 25 houses / businesses )were promised FTTP (about 12 months ago ) to be installed about now.- nowt happened
Seems the Gov has critised BT / Open whatsit for not reaching targets.
So they have taken the huff & are not doing any new quotes until a review has been carried out
Good job they don`t run a proper business

Hello,

Is this still the case?

There is government funding for full fibre networks which my company can help you unlock. We install and support full fibre networks.

Hello all,

We install full fibre networks in rural locations as part of the gigabit voucher scheme. We do this at a fraction of the cost/install time of BT. It is not easy but it is certainly not impossible!

If you would like to see if this fits for you and your business, give me a call: 07712088937

Thanks,

Lee

Can you tell us about who you represent?

Presumably like other private fibre operators working in this space you are relying on the “goodwill” of farmers and other landowners in a given geography to freely (or at minimal ongoing charge) allocate private land to run your fibre cabling?

Otherwise how does it (your business model) work?

Current promise is March - but seeing is believing
A new duct was installed just before Christmas where the BT cables go under the power lines. so maybe progress
