Is the red diesel fit for purpose with modern engines ?
We are double filtering and still changing filters at half the stated service interval. Sorry not interested in David Browns etc

Firstly is it en590 you're buying and how are you storing it ?

we are having no problem with t7 newholland combine or sp sprayer
filter fuel out of storage tank alow to settle 24 hours when refilled
we do make sure to use winter diesal after november

since low sulphur diesal came in i find that fuel filters on tractors last a lot longer

the only real problems we have is combine has a pencil filter in the tank that needs cleaning every couple of years
and using summer diesal in temperatures below 1 degree c

combine and tractor tank breathers and caps checked regularly

The way you say you're not interested in Davy browns would suggest you have quite modern kit. I think you ought to be buying in en590 and then see how you go.

Idealy you need to have more than one tank then when one is empty it is possible to drain it completely and ensure it is clean no water inthe bottom or debris

also it is then possible to keep summer diesel mixing with winter

outdoor tanks are also susceptable to condensation and cansquently water in the bottom
a leak of water into the tank is also possible in older tanks

I run a tractor on white, and that's the one with mucky filters

What's the best additive to put in tractor tank as I don't trust the winter bulk diesel order for severe frosts. Saying that we probably won't get much colder than tonight for another year.

Just buy GTL. Filter changes only take place at service intervals now, no such thing as winter fuel. Very cheap 5ppl dearer.

So can one pick up the phone and order 50 litres GTL and top up the tractor fuel tank just prior to a freeze up. Or is it all or nothing?

Minimum 2500 litres I think.
