Spent most of the morning getting prices.
Is it really worth your time? I tend to chose two, pick the benchmark first and then try my favourite after. Provided the second is less than the first, they get the order.
1p/litre is £10 on a 1,000 litres. I’m not spending half a morning to save £20.

Edit, looked again and yours are bigger quantities, so maybe is worth an hour.

Been holding off buying but have decided to top up all the tanks in case the Russia/Ukraine situation deteriorates. Delivery this week.

3300L Red @ 70.85ppl Quote range up to 74.55ppl
2000L Kero @ 54.3ppl Quote range up to 57.84ppl
Spent most of the day trying to get hold of any oil company, so far failed, resorted to email, still no response 🤷‍♂️
Like AnGof, I have been holding off ordering for a while, since before Christmas, hoping the price would ease and watching it rise, could probably get by for another week or so but tensions in the East could easily see it rise more so bit the bullet.

Unlike Adeptandy, I didn’t waste any time ringing around, texted my usual supplier the other morning for a price, I was somewhat surprised he didn’t get back to me later in the day.........a text came back at 10pm !
I sent him a reply straight away ordering, I do hope my original texts wasn’t one of those that goes through hours after it was sent and he only picked it up late at night.

I'm only ringing around as my usual supplier wasn't answering the phone :banghead:

My usual supplier is a small family buisness originated as coal men, still are but have diversified into other fuels as well. The guy I ring is out delivering fuel all day so o find it’s easier to drop him a text and he can reply when not busy.
They give good service and I’ve even heard of farmers taking a tractor to their yard to fill up when they’ve run out at a less than ideal time such as a bank holiday

Spread on that order was £192.90 place 5 orders in a year and that is £964.50 IF the spread is as wide. It’s all work that delivers bottom line profit. You might be better at selling your time than me 😉 but I thought a couple of hours in the office making calls and drinking coffee was good business at about £95/hr 👍👍

Mitchell and Webber
Butler
Heltor
Watsons
MVF
Consols oils
Semmens
M and W usual supplier
Butler merged with Keltic or OJ williams, sometimes best price but not often
Heltor usually 4+ppl more than anyone else, so stopped ringing them
Watsons merged with the one Butler didn't, again on and off cheapest, but not often.
I always thought MVF were just a broker, but when I rang them ages ago they were 2+ppl above everyone else.
Haven't heard of the other 2, I'll have to look harder.

Consols is owned by NWF, they were 7p dearer on red last time but cheapest the time before, I'm not very keen on NWF but can't help but ring them

Semmens are rarely in it, but they pass us on the A30 on their way west from Plymouth, I guess sometimes it suits them to price competitively to sell a bit on the way home

Fair enough, but how close would you have been with only doing two quotes?

Oh, and my “most of the morning” is a bit more than two hours…
