Hi
Im hoping someone can help me , our Claas ares 566 rz losses power if you drive over 1300 1400 rpm , its like its running out of fuel if you put your foot on the clutch and take the load off the revs pick up , we have changed filters , fuel lines , lift pump , I have even mounted a small fuel tank on the bonet and bypassed everything , I have got to the point its eletrical or injector pump , does anyone know how to test the protenteomater
Cheers

On a 697 there’s common faults with ECU playing up. I think they suffer with dry joints. Is it a deere engine? Worst when warm?

Yes it is a John Deere engine , the Claas dealer doesn't have the correct plugs to plug into the tractor as this is the only one of these tractors in our area
Is the engine ECU on the left hand side behind a small metal cover , can i open it up and see if it got any dry joints
The engine will rev no load , we have ran it with air intake hose off turbo seems to be fine , there isn't any add blue or DPF

Ya,engine ecu on the left hand side of engine, unbolt it and unplug it and hold it in your hand for a few minutes, sounds daft I know but it seems to bring them back to life for a while....

It does sound daft , I will give anything a go , can anyone tell me if I had to get a new ECU can I just plug it in or does it need soft wear loaded onto it ?

Yes it’s bolted to the side. Is power ok when tractors cold? Ideally find someone else with same tractor and swap the Ecu. If tractors ok when cold but not when warm take Ecu off put in freezer for half an hour and try again to confirm fault. If you can confirm fault David king electronics can repair them. If you buy a new one yes it will need software up loading.

With the engine ECU playing up the tractor will usually not run at all.
If you have a neighbour with the same tractor then swap ECU for a couple of hours to see if problem goes away.
Buy yourself a magnifying glass take ecu plug off and have a good look at all contacts. They usually are dirty or have seen the little spring clip inside female pins snapped off. They can be bought from claas

Freezer trick works on Arion ECU's with the older ECU we usually unbolt them and give it a few taps on a tyre plug back in and try. If its a dry joint they will work for a bit

I would get the right plug and see what faults are stored before you do anything else , and DO NOT SWAP OUT ANOTHER ECU they may be coded to the tractor and won't work or worst case you fry someone else's ecu and have to pay for that also

I've worked on these tractors for over 25 years. Swapping ECU from same range machine is not a problem. Changing from 6 cyl to 4 is not a problem. It will run good enough for diagnostics.
I agree that best course of action would be to plug into laptop but to be honest if its a dry joint or pin problem you my as well use the laptop as a hammer..
Have a look at pins as I described. If nothing is dirty or damaged then send to David King for test purposes. He can run them on a test bed before repair.

Unbolt the Ecu from its mount and put washers behind it .on the back of the Ecu is a slight raised metal part , this sits proud of the rest of the back of the Ecu.
When bolted on to the flat mount it causes a high spot and causes the Ecu to bend very slightly when the bolts are nipped up.
This bend eventually causes the internal board to crack.
Shimming the Ecu out from the plate with washers can help .
Often the tell tale is the engine temp gauge stops working.

Thanks everyone for your tips , the tractor runs fine for the first 5 or 10 min so its sounding like a dry joint as things warm up
I will go and have a look today at pins , then wheel tapping , then the freezer

We had a similar thing with our Renault 696 you could make it work by pushing on the ECU but that wasn't practical in the field. This was after our dealer had checked it and said we needed a new wiring loom. We sent the ECU to David King and it has worked for two years since without that problem reoccurring
