Just out of interest, how do you pick up a potential new farm? Do they call you in for a chat, or is it done through a friend of a friend?

I hope his crops are as clean as a very very clean whistle, on deep soil with massive yield potential!

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

His signature suggests that he isn't truly "independent."

If the two different spending levels produce the same yield then there's something worng with the incumbent. The hard part is a client that cares more about how their crops look than whether their spend is in the top 5% of the best return on inputs. I had contract farming clients who woud moan like hell if they didn't like the size of the spray invoices yet would also give me grief if they saw one redshank or groundsel plant in their field! These same clients called us in becasue they were haemorrhaging cash doing it themselves...!

... however 90% on fees

 That's what I call singing for your supper! Can you define "fees" please? PM if you'd prefer. I'm interested to know how the system works.

average fungicide spend so far up to and including T2:-

Kielder/Santiago/Conqueror (dirty varieties) = £88 / ha

JD Diego/Grafton (middle of road varieties) = £70 / ha

Skyfall/Evolution/KWS Lili/Relay (clean varieties) = £60 / ha

In hindsight could have trimmed T1 on rusty varieties back a bit more...............however if I was blessed with that would be sat in members at Lords watching Test Match after a very large euromillions win!!!

the joy of being in the far east where septoria pressure is lower and also no rainfall for 4 weeks in April......could have been much more different

plenty round here already well in excess of £100 per ha!

total budget here is £75-80 - on course to beat that but who knows what T3 may bring !

I can't see even with belt and braces where these numbers some are spending comes from - even if I had used SDHI at T1 as well as T2 I couldn't have spent that much !

combination of badly bought products at OTT prices plus belt and braces approach in a season that up until recently hasn't justified such an approach

quite agree - having reviewed budgets with customers this week we are approx. £15-25 / ha below depending on variety - had budgeted £75 to 85 on mid road varieties, and £110-£120 on dirty varieties, however drier weather in April and well timed applications allowed reduction.......like you say who knows what will happen next couple of weeks, however happy we have some budget in the bank if needed at earwash

How about expressing fungicide spend as cost per tonne? My budget used to be about £10/tonne but last year that went up to £12.72/t. Don't ask what it was in 2012 but in 2011 it was £8.67/tonne thanks to a good grain fill period, timely rain but not too much of it & a low disease pressure year.

What yield of Wheat do you think you would get if you only put say CTL on a T1 and a cheap T2 and T3? Would you expect to average 3 ton plus?

Some bonkers people on here.

We're at about £40/ha which with be about £4.6/tonne. And I think that'll be it. Next time the sprayer goes in the field will be dessication.

The shdi trial might show a difference but when your opening a 10l can that costs £300 it cements the cheap cheerful spend in my mind.

£118 on skyfall !!!! That's nothing more than robbery. Must be a serviced deal.

What's the expected yield?
