Future of first milk

More trimming down with comms director Paul Flanagan leaving shortly. A streamlined outfit prepared to pay for the right staff is the way. And whilst paying top dollar doesn't always get the best staff, paying peanuts will only get monkeys and that's worse!

Im lost as to what @jockthethistle is on about. Nosey so want to find out though!

@runny egg Egg, was Paul Flanagan doing a good job do you think?
I never met him so no first hand knowledge, he was there for 11 years though! Comms has been a hot topic amongst members of late so maybe signals a change of approach. I fior one want to see FM kick on - much to the disappointment of those who took great enjoyment from its struggles.

For once me and you agree. If FM had folded then the whole industry would have been up the creek.

The problem is we were paying top dollar and still got monkeys ( Directors ) !! Still top heavy for the milk they handle.
Paul did not know how to communicate with members, square peg in a round hole !!
Most of us are desparate for them to succeed but they need to open up behave like a Co-op and loose the old establishment knows best tag that has been there since the start.

That's the feeling I got but you would know better, sometimes the fear of doing the wrong (comms thing results in doing nothing. Onwards and upwards (and westwards) now.

I agree I don't know why anyone would join either. We WILL always be stuck at the bottom, absalutley not a chance in hell of getting less in the uk than first milk. But because of the rage installed in me purely because of first milk il always work and try that 0.5% harder. They have battered on about how well the business is doing, Jesus Christ give us 1% above the market if it's doing that bloody well

I'm the first to admit I don't have the first clue what it has like to have been a first Milk supplier over the last 3 yrs and given how much I worry about money/future it would have probably been too much for me. But what I don't understand is when figures are put in on the Milk price thread it doesn't appear to me that FM producers are maximising their constituent contracts, it makes absolutely no sense to me :scratchhead:

Not all Counties are constituent and it changes, Staffs went liquid last October & there's a fare few with cross breeds there

I agree, we are trying @lazy farmer! Iv struggled with fat and protein all year. Our protein has taken a jump to 3.36 that's half a penny on top of our sept price. And our fat is up to 4.1! So just with our constituents in October we are 0.8 pence better off, plus a penny rise on the milk price. I look at the constituent average and first milk do have good constituents. We are always below the fm average. I simply don't know why they don't allow a takeover, I would say every single first milk member would give thier left testicle for a takeover. And even now ud get fm cheap because I would more than happily accept half of our capital to be bought over

The milk that goes into cheese is rewarded with good constituents, not so much in Scotland where it goes to liquid. That's where I get confused with Arla, Arla milk near Lockerbie goes to cheese, but they get the same reward as the producers down south that goes to liquid.
