Galvanised Purlins

Several of my local shed fabricators are now pushing for galvanised purlins for agricultural sheds. If you want timber then you will pay a premium and the shed becomes expensive especially if you want 15ft bays which makes the galvanised purlin sheds very attractive in comparison.

I am told the purlins are now pre hot dipped galvanised and are superior to timber unlike the ‘galvanised’ purlins you got a few years ago which I seen rust and rot very quickly.

The last 4/5 new sheds I went to view had galvanised purlins. Any truth in these purlins now?

All we use on our cattle sheds. They don't droop so gutters stay good and must help sheets. Got 40+ year old shed with them on and that's was still ok when we reroofed it 10 years ago.

We do have open ridge and opt for steeper pitch, so plenty of air movement etc. which I am sure must help.
