goes in three tanks before it goes in the zincDo any of the galvanising companies pretreat or is it just throw into the bath and out again
but still doesn't touch paint I'm toldgoes in three tanks before it goes in the zinc
our price is all in but that's usually for a decent volume.....last 2 buildings were 110t and 46tMD @Minshall Buildings
Is your £220 a ton including the zinc and enviro charge,
£220 all in is a lot cheaper than the galvanizers up here
The galvanizing process is, pickle the steel in hydrochloric acid, flux in zinc ammonium chloride then dip in zinc at 450oC.but still doesn't touch paint I'm told
£400 for structural steel seems very high to me. Would not expect more than £250+ zinc surcharge currently for say a 10t building?Think it's around £400 but prices went up a lot at start of this month cause of a zinc tax or something. You've got to haggle them for a decent price.
Any recommended galvanisers in the Wiltshire area? Have a price from wedge group down at Eastleigh and they are looking for more than the cost of the steel. Only about 3 ton to do which I guess is the issue.
Most UK plants are pretty good and all have to galvanize steel to BS EN ISO 1461 standard. The galvanizing process alloys the zinc to the steel so in simple terms if it looks good then it is good! Difference is generally in the service...and price! What is the one in newport like? Good?
dont galv them they will most likely distort in the dip, large areas of thin plate have a lot of stress in them and will distort in the dip tank with the heat unless you make a box section frame and fix sheeting on afterWhen you make something to be galvenized what size holes do they need in box section ? Im going to make silage sides for my grain trailer and see Franklin steel do a pick up drop off service, might try it if not to dear will save them rusting away in the winter lol.
Will it distort the box section frame tho ? not that bothered if the thin plate warps a little.dont galv them they will most likely distort in the dip, large areas of thin plate have a lot of stress in them and will distort in the dip tank with the heat unless you make a box section frame and fix sheeting on after
it could do ,also be mindful they can be very rough handling some stuff, i think i would go for paint on this one just to be safeWill it distort the box section frame tho ? not that bothered if the thin plate warps a little.
Cheers, fek it for what they are i just paint them.Agreed that best solution is to galvanize the box frame and then purchase galvanized sheet for over cladding after. Galvanizing the box section should be fine as zinc coatings are quite robust and certainly more abrasion resistant than paint. regards hole size the answer is "as large as possible" because these holes allow the molten zinc to flow through the section and the quicker this can happen the less time the steel is in the zinc and the less chance it will distort. Avoid different thickness's of steel welded together as this is the most common cause of distortion, as they heat up and cool down at different rates which can lead to the fabrication distorting.
wedge at Eastleigh is the only plant in the area...hence higher prices!
contact Medway ( part of Joseph Ash) or Cardiff galvanizers as I think they may collect on a milk round
Glad it worked out for you ....and hopefully saved you enough for a beer once its up !Well thanks for the recommendation, they collected at 4 on Friday and returned it at lunchtime today (Tuesday). Tidy job although would have been better if I had chipped all the slag off properly. Not cheap but cheaper than wedge. View attachment 523210View attachment 523212
It seems that rust is ok. Paint, oil and welding slag are bad.So steel wants to be rust free when it goes as cleen as poss ?
