Galvanising quality of tank

Good day folks,
First time poster but long time lurker on the forum.

I purchased a new slurry tanker and out of pure curiosity what do people think of the quality of this galvanising (this is on the inside of the barrell).
Never seen the inside of any other newly galvanised tank so here is the vid

Looks like rust bleed coming though? From what I understand if there's small gaps in the steel the zinc can't penetrate but leaves a small crevice which can be super corrosive. Or im talking complete rubbish.

I'd be asking for my money back and go with a different manufacturer...

Not good at all if it's new . What make is it?

I don’t want to mention the manufacturer to be honest until I make contact. Is this down to the galvanisers or the tanker manufacturer?

The outside is perfect in comparison is this down to the quality of the barrell or the way it is prepared before the galvanisers get it ?

Its down to prep. Is that all rust we can see or is any of it dirt? If its all rust time it was sent back. Fault will lie with Galvanisers but ultimately with QC of tanker manufacturer unless they do their own Galvanizing?

Hi, ya i had the exact same thing in my tank when i purchased it new in 2017. i have pictures but didnt bother getting back to dealer tbh.
id be guessing its down to galvanisers but just guessing.

That second pic looks like red dirt.

Fair enough. Could be a preparation issue. I'm no expert .

ya agree it was like red soil, it was quite hard had to scrape it off with a spade. had a few inches in a bucket when finished

Tanks don't rust through from the outside, so I would be inclined to talk to the manufacturer

It really doesn't matter who is to blame.
Your contract of sale is with the manufacturer and dealer.
Supplying Dealer is first port of call.
If the galvanised turns out to be at fault that's up to the manufacturer to chase. Not your problem

Thanks for all replies on this. I may have been a bit too hasty. I opened up the tank and had a good look around it’s a red sand that is in it. I do see two places where the galvanising didn’t stick but it’s nowhere near as bad as the video I uploaded. Phew. That’s the end of me looking for problems

Is that residual sand from them being sand blasted inside and out prior to them being hot dipped?

Bit poor that they haven't cleaned out all the left over material if so.

New tanks aren't blasted they are pickled and if they were blasted it wouldn't be with red clay. Think they are immersed 4 times before galvanising.

If these tanks were dipped in acid how come the galv hasn't taken to them and why is there sand etc in the thing? It's just weird.

Good evening all. I’m over half a year late getting back just giving an update on this thread to close it out proper. Manufacturer got back and said it was nothing to worry about it was the way the galvanising process works.
I got onto the galvaniser in question as well who are Shannonside galvanisers in Limerick.
They said it’s normal that this happens when galvanising a cylinder / tanker due to air pockets. The corrosion protection of the HDG coating is not impacted they are just ash deposits from the galvanising process. Anyways case closed but if anyone buys a new galvanised tank I’d be interested in seeing any pictures of the inside it’s curiosity at this rate.
