my lawn was looking wonderful last year but seems yo be full of patches of this wide leaf grass ? any ideas what it is, where its sud cone from and what i can do about it ?

Creeping or Common.

comes from seed its a common weed grass all over, fields verges etc especially in long term PP type situation.

cant do much about it in that situation tough as old boots.

Got a few invasive weeds in the garden, so hoping a knapsack of something will sort them out.
Ground elder
And some sort of buttercup - not the creeping sort.

MCPA all I need?
That is groung elder, will not live a lawn for long as it does not like being mowed. It is also fine to be grazed. We can thank the Romans for its introduction as they ate it.
if it gets in borders it is a nightmare, spreads by very small piece of root.
i suspect that most BLW weedkillers will remove it
