comes from seed its a common weed grass all over, fields verges etc especially in long term PP type situation.

cant do much about it in that situation tough as old boots.

Definitely leather jackets, had them for a while and couldn’t figure what it was. It’s a new lawn laid last year and lots of daddy long legs seen

its not annual meadow grass.
Its not Cocksfoot (because that would tolerate constant tight mowing) either its Common Bent.

That is groung elder, will not live a lawn for long as it does not like being mowed. It is also fine to be grazed. We can thank the Romans for its introduction as they ate it.
if it gets in borders it is a nightmare, spreads by very small piece of root.
i suspect that most BLW weedkillers will remove it
