Russia: drilling like never before, trying to build Nord stream 2 but being blocked by the EU.

Joe Biden: bans drilling on federal land. Supports ending hydraulic fracturing and removing offshore leases that were previously given. Results in LNG facilities being canceled.

Scottish Governmnet: Trying to prevent any future offshore UK née developments.

BBC: Russia is holding us to Ransom on energy.
Do these pansies even think about what they are saying.

Benefit of having a degree in PPE or English Literature (and then being parachuted into a safe constituency as an MP or passing the BBC selection board - being LGBQTXYZ etc helps also) And anyway electricity comes out of a socket on the wall and food is found in Waitrose.

You forgot- the UK hasn't fracked anything either because no one will allow the companies to do it.

Tony Blair opted to change energy policy in favour of gas powerstations, based on the fact it was quick and easy to do and a bit cleaner so politically expedient. Only it is utter madness to burn gas to make electricity.

Also, as yet there is no gas pipeline to supply Europe with gas directly from the middle east. Understandably Russia would prefer that this does not ever happen.

I'm sure there was a plan to build one? From Quatar across Syria and Turkey, I think. Will have a look later

I don’t think onshore UK fracing would ever have really worked at any great scale. It’s too densely populated. There is oceans of gas out at sea though that could be developed with the right incentives in place.

Also did anyone see Putin’s interview where he clearly articulated the issues with a short term gas trading environment vs long term supply contracts. Compare with any current western leaders speeches.

They have been fracking in Surrey since the 1930s . Coal mining saw far more ground movement that fracking ever would.
The attitude of Boris toward the energy crisis, does not make good reading for anyone interested in the agricultural industry

There is fracing (no K) and there is fracing. What they did in the 1930s is nothing like what we do now in west Texas with 20,000HP screaming it’s head off pumping at 10,000psi on a 15000ft long horizontal well. I just can’t see that being done in any great scale around the edge of Bognar Regis. I applaud quadrilla for giving it a try but it was an uphill battle they were fighting.

It isn't just ground movement, there are considerations about the long term implications of pumping some interesting chemicals deep down there knowing they can't ever really be recovered again.

Well there is fracing and fracking. And no cause to be dogmatic about it. (You've no idea how many times I've wanted to explode about abuse of the humble apostrophe on here (especially from the many anti-foreign posters whose language skills seem pretty rough). Fracing seems (my interpretation) to be more commonly used among those who have been or would like to appear to have been working in the business.

As I understand it, they are still merrily frac(k)ing in Surrey
Fracking is the standard English version
I happily accept that professional's may use the Americanism

I don’t believe fracture is spelt with a k in the queens English. Fracing is an a abbreviation of Hydraulic fracture. I think the K appeared when those in the industry were being told to Frack off

Does the technology exist to frack oil and gas deposits in shales that are under the sea? I know the USA is big on this now, but their program seems to be entirely onshore as opposed to off shore.

Speaking to someone involved in the industry who lives in the village, he was of the opinion that there is a shed load of oil and gas left on Earth- basically anywhere you used to find oil and gas, you will find shales as well.

Same technique. Just higher costs because the pumping will usually be done on a separate boat alongside the drilling rig. Most of the deepwater wells are “Frac Packed” which is a mix of pumping gravel around the wellbore for drainage while also fracturing the rock.

Your friend in the village is quite correct. The oil originated in the shale and migrated into more porus reservoirs like sandstone or carbonate where you can place a well that will be highly productive.

Fracture is not spelt with a ‘k’. You’re absolutely right as well as about its etymology, but fracking is the more common usage (even according to Merrimack-Webster)
But I see no need to be dogmatic about it as I said, though you’ll understand when I resist your attempt (if that’s what is is) to be dogmatic about the other alternative
Ok?
