Gatepost ideas

I've got a gate that now isn't quite wide enough and I could do with fitting a double gate. The whole area sits on an old hardcored site so is a nightmare to try and dig into. Anyone got any genius ideas for a simple way to install a gatepost?

I toyed with a plate on the bottom but the pins will be a nightmare to bash in.

Somehow setting one in a huge lump of concrete?

Bar getting a mini digger in to dig a massive hole for a conventional post I'm stuck.

I've also got a broken arm so not full tilt, which isn't helping.

Any ideas welcomed!

Thank

You can hire petrol powered augers, both 2 person hand held and those on a wheeled frame. Then you can put your ground socket in for the removable post.
Not sure where you are but I'm sure Eagle plant hire them, they cover the southwest.

You have my sympathies, I spent 2 days this month digging out an old post in concrete, so would not recommend concreting one in. Looks like digging an 'ole or knocking an rsj in. As the OP has a broken arm, can you get a mini digger fitted with an auger ?

Two options:

1) Get a fencing contractor in.
2) Get a digger in. Dig a hole. Place a large diameter twinwall pipe vertically to make a deep/large socket and backfill hole. Place post into twinwall pipe and fill with concrete.
Used a piece of twinwall pipe around the last gatepost I replaced, only 'cause I couldn't find a 7 inch post to fit the hole exactly.

Do the job properly:

Caw the old post out using the side of a machine that's too wide

Tie an old pallet, preferably not too rotten, onto what's left of the end of the fence

Swing the existing gate round and, viola, wider gateway at no cost, no more than 10 minutes work, and easily accomplished with one arm

Choose the right old pallet, and that wider gateway will last years 👍
