Every jimney I’ve seen lately needs welded same place or has been welded in the same places , rust buckets jimmeys .
Tbh most jap stuff the same , more double cabs killed around here with rust failing the MOT than any other thing. For farm use keeping rust out of anything that isn’t plastic or galvanised will be almost impossible.

If jimnys were diesel they would be worth a bit of maintenance but can’t see enough advantage when petrol.

I think the salt they put on the roads now is stronger or something they put sticky stuff on it to stick to road but also sticks to equipment etc , it’s far harsher than it used to be .

Old MK 2 Toyota Hilux on fat tyres ?

Hi

I'm looking at options of getting either a gator (something like the John Deere XUV855D) or quad bike (Honda TRX500) for 70 acres of pasture: feeding animals, fencing, moving stuff, pulling small loads etc. Apart from the obvious: staying drier, having more room onboard to carry stuff), but more expensive, I'm interested in:

  • Particularly impact on the ground issues (the gator is 4x heavier than the quad, so might have a much bigger impact on the ground?)
  • Fuel consumption comparison
  • Any practicality differences
Any advice gratefully received!

We've had a Kioti Mechron for six years, can't fault it in any way. It uses red, it has a windscreen and a roof - we didn't opt for doors and the full cab, too much inning and outing for gates and stock to make it worthwhile.

It can and does take a 5 foot pallet in the back up to 500kgs, though we've probably never put more than 400kgs in (16 x 25kg sacks, so I know that is the weight). Never any faults that weren't caused by me ( :banghead: ) and it will go anywhere that has a gap wide enough for it to fit through - and we have some very steep and very rough ground. Just starting to think about new tires for it. If you are sensible, the ground doesn't suffer from using it. We had a front tow-hitch added, excellent bit of kit that makes maneuvering anything in a tight space much, much easier.

All in all, one of the very few bits of kit I've bought that wasn't just as good as I hoped it would be, but was in fact even better. (y)

The kioti is a very underrated machine, bit slower and noisier than the new breed but tough and reliable
I would have gone for a new k9 if the dealer was closer

They are a bit bigger than mine, if it's even better - and I can't see them not having done so - you'd be barking not to write off the extra distance. (y)

I really liked the pioneer, the dealer had an ex demo 700 with full cab and all the extras but it was out on demo, before we could try it it was sold
The 520 had enough grunt to pull a snacker, I put a logic type sheep trailer on it with four straining posts in and it pulled up some steep banks no bother
Same dealer has just started to sell Corvus , we had a demo for a week then took the plunge
It’s an unknown quantity to be honest , but there’s 2 yr warranty and a very good dealer
All these machines are hellish expensive, I’ve never spent this sort of money on a car let alone a buggy , but … it’s used every day and is safer ( in my opinion) on the roads
I am 57 have had motorcycles all my working life, and am at a stage where I want things to make life easier, be that buggies or handling systems
Just looking up these pioneers, I wonder if the 520 roll bar will be too tall to fit into my 510 ifor stock trailer ??

I used to get gator in one but it depends on angle of ramp as your driving up, if you can park so ramps fairly level it might just fit

Can’t really say to be honest, all these buggies are surprisingly tall
I am sure there’s dimensions on line somewhere
One thing to note , I downloaded the Honda aftermarket bolt on goodies brochure and extras are really expensive

Bought a petrol gator in late 2013 with glass doors, now done 30,000 miles with little real trouble except tyres, ideal for field & moor, with glass doors you can quickly whip off drivers door & as good as quad but a damm sight dryer & warmer but don’t smash that door as £900 plus if broken. Buy a diesel model not as fast but obviously far cheaper to run, not so keen on the newer 3 seat models as more bulky when on the moor, worth having the protection bars around all sides.
would u have any idea what fuel usage? does it hold speed well on hills>
