Is there such a thing as a tolerant Tory?
If you look at the media or read social media it isnt tories rioting or call those with opposing views names, I might not agree with the views of Clegg, Blair ,Brown, Corbyn or Starmer but I have never made personal attacks on them or called them by many four letter words unlike many on the left use towards the current government or even some of those I named.

You may be correct, after all I hear nothing but praise for Blair, Corbyn etc. Personally I think Corbyn would have been a disaster, his only saving grace would be that he is more to the right than out own P.M.

Criticism is fine calling people pansies etc and wishing they would die is not, I've seen plenty of that said about conservative and ukip politicians and even Tony Blair by those on the left, the hate left wing have for those that disagree with them is disturbing,

He certainly claimed to be a member of the Conservative party as did thousands of his followers.
I could claim I'm shagging Amanda Holden doesnt mean its true, im sure the tories would kick him out if he had joined, I note the article is two years old, to be fair Hopkins tells a lot of home truths, along with a few views better left unsaid, just because a few wokey pc loving types disagree with her doesnt mean she is wrong, the pc people said the same about enoch Powell and his predictions weren't far out.

Hitler also told a lot of home truths, but it doesn't stop being a right-wing racist megalomaniac. Enoch Powel was a man of his time and empire. Clever and a good orator but couldn't come to terms with our loss of India resulting mass immigration to the UK. He wasn't hostile to Russia but didn't have much time for Europe or the USA:

"Yet we slink about like whipped curs:;... our self-abasement principally takes the form of subservience to the United States:;... we are under no necessity to participate in the American nightmare of a Soviet monster barely held at bay in all quarters of the globe by an inconceivable nuclear armament and by political intervention everywhere from Poland to Cambodia. It is the Americans who need us in order to act out their crazy scenario... We simply do not need to go chasing up and down after the vagaries of the next ignoramus to become President"

I think Enoch`s immigration problem was coming from all over the Commonwealth. He realised that mass immigration without integration was a serious concern and though his Rivers of Blood speech was often condemned as brutal sensationalism it was estimated that 75% of the UK population agreed with him in principle. He was sacked by prime minister Heath who, thirty years later, admitted that the basis of the speech showed remarkable prescience.
Yesterday I had a long conversation with a Baptist minister who was adopted by English parents from an orphanage in Kenya as a boy. We talked about political stability in Africa and the influence of tribalism. Without prompting he suggested that in fifty years time this country will suffer the same fate due to lack of immigrant integration. In other words the population will become more divided and segregated, not less.

What would be your thoughts on whether Powell helped or hindered the integration process? My own perception is that he did the latter, but I may be wrong.

He warned of the dangers of not integrating immigrants, let's face it birds of a feather flock together, brits abroad often form little enclaves especially in countries where english isnt the primary language, why would any other nation be different? That said the UK has one of the most diverse populations in the world, second only to the states, the vast majority of the time we all live peacefully together

His big concern even as far back as 1946 when he wrote a paper on it, was with mass immigration particularly from India and presumably Pakistan rather than other commonwealth nations. Although anti immigration rhetoric was not confined to Powell as the 1959 Smethwick bye election was won by the Conservatives with the slogan ‘if you want a nigger neighbour, vote Labour’.

"Virtually the entire inflow was therefore Asiatic, and all but three or four thousand of that inflow originated from the Indian subcontinent... It is by 'black Power' that the headlines are caught, and under the shape of the negro that the consequences for Britain of immigration and what is miscalled 'race' are popularly depicted. Yet it is more truly when he looks into the eyes of Asia that the Englishman comes face to face with those who will dispute with him the possession of his native land". Enoch Powell

On reflection it was probably inflammatory but on the other hand he was trying to deliver a wake up call to his own government colleagues. The result was that he was pilloried by many of them but lauded by the public. I believe that the integration process was without help as long as levels remained high and I believe the same applies today.

A lot of academics blame the second WW on the terms imposed upon Germany after the first which lead to suffering in Germany allowing Hitler to rise to power to right those (perceived) wrongs, perhaps you have a point about comparing Hopkins and hitler, maybe she is pointing out many of the issues that poorer people in this country feel aggrieved about, some of those led to the brexit result, the political elite and media weren't listening then and many dont seem to be now, no wonder hopkins has an audience, love or hate boris at least he says he wants to "level up" the country
