The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) price index has recorded a slight increase of 0.8% at the latest trading event held today (Tuesday, September 17).
The index now stands at 1,150, up from 1,142 at the previous event held on September 3, which saw a decrease of 0.4% and had been the first drop since the beginning of July.
A total of 38,814MT were sold at an average price of $3,883/MT at the 364th trading event today. This compares to a total of 38,346MT sold at an average price of $3,833/MT at the previous event.
The products offered at today’s event were anhydrous milk fat, butter, cheddar, lactose, mozzarella, skim milk powder and whole milk powder.
There were a total of 185 bidders participating in the latest GDT auction, of which 127 were winning bidders across 16 bidding rounds and a duration of two hours and 37 minutes.
The sub-index for mozzarella recorded the biggest increase at 4.5% to $5,351/MT, followed by a 3.5% rise in the sub-index for lactose to $896/MT. The sub-index for cheddar was up by 2.9% to $4,441/MT.
Increases were also recorded in the sub-indices for skim milk powder and whole milk powder, which rose by 2.2% to $2,809/MT and by 1.5% to $3,448/MT respectively at the latest event.
The sub-index for butter recorded the biggest decrease at today’s auction, declining by 1.7% to $6,546/MT, followed by the sub-index for anhydrous milk fat which was down by 1.2% to $7,220/MT.
