So we attract a fifth of all foreign investment into the EU. That's says a lot for sure. I ask myself how much of that foreign investment is designated as investment in the EU (500m people) as opposed to UK (50m people) as we happen to be in the EU and speak English. Will we still attract it after we leave? Aren't some that are already here cutting scale and shifting people and some of the business to Frankfurt? What promise did the PM make to Nissan? Why was that necessary? The whole shooting match is very cloudy I must admit. She keeps all her cards very close to her chest all the time. Giving her a huge majority without her spelling out the plan is a dumb move for the people to make. Why would anyone sign a contract without first seeing the finest of the fine detail?
Maybe better she has a huge majority, rather than it ending up with a close run situation, with all the Parties squabbling and there being no way forward. There is no contract as it were in place yet and we will all have to wait the two years to see what is on offer.

A lot can and will happen in that two years, which could well reflect on the final outcome. Even a huge majority will not give TM carte blanche to follow through with any devious plan. This is still a parliamentary democracy and she will be walking a tight rope. But best that we kick into touch those who would try and thwart progress being made at all.

Interestingly, I think the ECB has warned the German's against attracting some of the more riskier aspects of investment banking from London into Europe. Presumably Greece is enough for them to be bailing out at present. :D

Have to say I'm much struck by the contrast between TheDonald's snivelling drip drip drip of negativity and Arbel's reasoned replies....

Reasonable criticism is one thing, but with theDonald it seems like a hate campaign - entirely without substance. "She is a nobody"... Well, she's PM and rather a good one. One up to her, I think. Then the "soft" "hard" Brexit thing - what does theDonald actually want her to do, apart from balls it all up? And does theDonald really expect to be given facts and figures of something which has yet to be negotiated?

I don't think I've ever seen quite such an irrationally negative poster on here; and seemingly here purely to moan about Teresa May.

Can she sell a Brexit which isn't really much of a Brexit at all to her party? To the country? Well, she'll have the BBC on message.Forty eight percent of the population will be relieved. The fifty two percent who voted leave will be split but a lot of them will believe the media when they sell it as "all fine and dandy".The hard brexiteers in the Tory party will just have to suck it up because they've no where else to go now.

Not a lot of sense in that post. Would you care to offer an alternative version of what you said so that most of us can udnerstand it?

A "like" for that was not sufficient, and I commend you on the astuteness of your post. You already know I do not patronise.

Obviously his posts are politically motivated, as are Jendan's, which rather surprises me. I had marked him as a farmer, not a political beast.

Isn't she in reality a nobody! What has she ever achieved in politics? Isn't she PM by pure chance of circumstance? She delivered article 50, but was only the water carrier! Others did the work!! Didn't she make an absolute mess of the letter declaring article 50 by making security cooperation a sort of threat! I'm having more and more doubts about her as a proper Brexit PM.

No rationality behind anything in that post. You have only joined this forum to take swipes at the PM and the present government.

It is a farming forum, and farmers are, on the whole, rational people who have to think many years into the future. If you want to convince posters on here that you have any credence, then you have to think like a farmer. I doubt you can, but give it a try and see what happens.

She should have a hard rock Brexit election manifesto! Absolutely no equivocation! Red red lines in the sand. NO immigration! Not one single penny of a Brexit bill to be paid! Lay out her terms of free trade deal with EU! No jurisdiction in UK by ECJ! Electorate will back her! EU will crap themselves.
She has her chance now to lay it on the line to the EU AND to the people of Britain. Back a proper Brexit or sack it. Back her to do it or sack her. You can't get one without the other if you really mean Brexit!

What a load of rubbish.

Anybody trying to negotiate anything would have no hope with that approach,. Have you ever negotiated anything with anybody who has more than a smattering of intelligence?

I would assume that the other 52% or thereabouts of voters who voted the same as me knew that it would be a long, difficult, precarious at times, frustrating and not always achievable two years of very delicate negotiations before eventually the majority of those in the negotiations accepted that some things can be achieved and others cannot. The end result is unknown but there will ahve to be a lot of give and take on both sieds before it is concluded.

Circa 600 million people in it. So what is a big club then? Lincoln City football club?

Closer to 500m I think, but your point is correct.

I cannot see any reason why the EU should collapse, and much as I have always felt that the UK should not be part of it, I am sure it would not be in the interests of the rest of the world, including the UK, if it did.

The size all depends on the other fish in the pond (to use a metaphor) and I have never claimed anything on my own behalf. The EU, with most of those 500m not having the wherewithal to buy UK goods, are just a small fish.

@czechmate You need to register. My vote in the ref and in the upcoming GE will be in the former constituency. I have an idea, but do not know, that in time (? after 15 years' absence) it is still possible to vote in GEs and you are in some "overseas" constituency. Never checked it out so, as I said I do not know.

You cannot vote if you have been out of the country for more than fifteen years. This was due to have been changed to lifetime in the next few weeks but now looks like it won't happen, at least not in this Parliament.

I voted out out a sense that our domestic politicans couldn't be properly held to account. They tend to blame everything which is bad, not done properly or not up to scratch on the EU. Therefore I wanted out of EU so there could be no more excuses and we could judge them all on performance.

To do so requires them to spell out in crystal clear terms what their agenda is for the next term of parliament. I vote for the leader or party which most closely matches my own requirements or beliefs. At next election I want to make my judgment based on performance against promises.

On TM, my own judgement is that she has nothing in terms of achievement or core philosophy carrying forward from her political past life. She is now most closely associated with Brexit even though she never once to my knowledge expressed a single scintilla of support for it prior to her becoming PM !!!
If I'm incorrect here perhaps you might enlighten me?

So now in my opinion she is about to engage in a massive power grab due to the implosion of labour and the Corbyn effect.
That's ok. Nothing wrong or illegal about that.

Nevertheless in my humble opinion she needs to spell out graphically what she intends to do with that power.

Since the greatest political challenge of our times is Brexit, she does in my opinion need to SPELL IT OUT! I want to judge her in the future against what she spells out now.

That's MY opinion! It's precious to me and I intend to keep it that way. The fact that you try to ridicule that is YOUR right I suppose.

I won't respond in kind though. I respect others right to have their own opinions and won't ridicule them for that.
