General Grabber AT3 tyres for pickup

Pickup tyres getting worn and a look round at tyres I see General have upgraded their 4x4 tyres. Of interest is there new Grabber AT3 tyre. Anyone using them? Are they quiet on the road? What are they like on wet/dry roads and off road.

I've had a set of Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX's Had them for 5 years and done in excess of 40,000 miles. They are on current pickup but started life on my previous one. Been a good tyre. Never had a puncture and good enough on and off road. Not worn out but maybe down to 20% and starting to get noisy.

I get on Ok with the Grabbers ...got a set of AT3's on my Amarok and they are great on the road ...virtually no road noise ...not had them long enough to comment on off road performance...as only done 1000 miles.
The problem with BFG's is the restricted choice of sizes ...they don't do one to fit the Amarok .

The Cooper ST Maxx tyres aren't made in the original tyre size for my D-Max 255/65x17 but fitted 265/70x17 which are of course a bit bigger. No I'll effects. Fuel consumption suffered but they are an a/t tyre and a heavier tyre.

Thanks for feedback on the General Grabbers. The demonstrator D-Max I had last year had the GG AT3's fitted. They were smooth and quiet on road compared to the Coopers fitted to my pickup but never had the vehicle long enough. The ST Maxx's have been a good tyre on and off road but have become noisy the more they have worn. Other tyre I was considering was the Cooper AT3 which is a little more road biased than the Cooper ST Maxx's. Hadn't considered the Goodyears but the BFG's are an option.

BFG here, worth the money. Not bad off road but Mrs T did get it stuck on the weekend :sorry::sorry:

Not so bad on the road either, will be coming up to 10,000 and don't look to have worn a jot yet. Not noisy and great with a load on.

Want to keep the bigger size tyre I have on the isuzu and a quick price up of the cooper at3 seems that 265/70 r17 not very available in UK. Certainly not on Coopers UK website though are at /65 aspect ratio. Does T Elsey hang around this forum still? Dropped a tractor tyre in for repair yesterday and was going to have a word when I picked it up but someone else picked it up for me as he was going next door to them.

Some reviews online slated the BFG for poor grip on wet roads. Maybe they drive to fast for the conditions? But reviews say the new model BFG AT is an improvement. Certainly consider them. Current Coopers down to 20 to 25 % (depending where you measure) and have a lot more tyre roar than they used too. Keep having to turn the radio up - or I'm actually going deaf..... pardon!

As above, try the Goodyear wranglers, we’ve had them on two defenders, done lots of miles and been long lasting, quiet on road and plenty of grip off road.

I need a new set of tyres on my ranger soon. It's currently on the duelers, as it does not go off road often, got the quad for that. Mainly off road for shows, sales. Was thinking about all terrians, but are they much noisier and lower fuel economy much?
Any brand ideas?

BF Goodrich on the amarok here

No noisier, dry road grip pretty much as good as road tyres, wet grip slightly poorer, off road grip brilliant (road tyres are not even fit to cross dry grass though), wear rate phenomenology low, fuel economy still early 30's around country roads (can the ranger get anything like that now though?).

If you're never off road with the pickup, stay with road tyres unless you like to pose.

I want something with a bit more grip off road, I know what you mean about grass and these tyres.

We run Michelin latitude on our three shoguns. They have transformed the vehicles! In the wet the cars used to need 4wd ingaged when leaving roundabout OFF throttle! Now they are fine in 2wd. They wear better! Somewhere around 40k .
I had cooper LTZ on my last disco 4. They looked good. Wore very well but were ok Isi in wet on a permanent 4wd vehicle !
