Generator

Out of interest what make of robot, how many, what size generator & roughly how much fuel would you use? We’ve still got quite a wait for a grid connection & questioned a generator but fag packet calculations say we’re better off waiting.

I have 2 DeLaval robots, 1 classic and 1 V300.
I have a 120Kva (50Kva grid connection) 3 phase generator. When I bought it 2 years ago I ran it for 3 days straight and then on the next 3 days monitored the units used form the mains. At that time the generator was about 2.5 times more expensive to run. I will do it again now shortly because with rapidly rising electric costs, I am not sure what way it all stands now.

I am running my entire yard with the generator when it is on.

Our cubicle shed now has 2 fewer sheets on the roof and the calf shed has one less. Loads of power flickers but luckily none at milking time. Hope everyone else fared OK.
We got on the electric required jobs done early.
electric was off by 10.45. Didn’t come back until 2.45 am.
miserable having use the car to charge my phone and head torch🙁
We don’t have a generator for my house we do for both the oldies houses so they were fine after we got it going when the winds abated a bit. Also lost a garden fence that’s been there for 20 yrs.
feeding colostrum whilst using a head torch is also a delight. Though at least no cows decided not to give birth during the worst of it.

It's always windy here, trees don't grow and on that basis, I'm not planning on any power cuts.
It wasn’t that bad here compared to normal winds BUT objects that havnt seen a big wind all went here. Main issue was the power lines going up and down and causing several to break blowing a transformer.

Control said to Western Power lads that a tree must be hitting the wire, they said back they couldn’t see any trees let alone tall enough to touch a wire 🤣
