Genuine Apple iPhone 5 lightning charger cable with cigarette lighter attachment

Over time the supplied Lightning type cables break and fray. I've bought various replacement ones but now often my replacement cables and the USB car charger connection for the cigarette lighting state incompatible with device etc

I have a USB outlet in the car but yesterday was a long day away in the Landrover and I need to charge my iPhone 5.

Where can I get a car charger cable that will work without going to my local Stormfront and having my trousers down

If you put in "genuine" etc in eBay you get a zillion "genuine" label products but how many really work?

Every time I've had a similar message, and I use many different chargers and cables, the phone starts charging fine as long as it is unlocked after the first connection, in my case by using the fingerprint or, occasionally, the passcode.

Try putting a simple lighter to usb adaptor in your lighter socket... In vehicle USBs are usually connected to the car audio systems and the phone doesn't like to use these data+power connections without getting your permission. I know in my wife car my phone will connect (once given permission) to the usb socket but the voltage output must be rubbish as it barely charges 20% an hour and cant keep pace if the phone is being used for navigation.

I had one and it used to work, now it doesn't even with a pucker Apple lightning lead. I'm convinced every Apple upgrade on the software weeds out any non Apple products

Most peculiar. I use various chargers, including for older Android phones, coupled with various cables, including Amazon Basics of two lengths, two or three 'best' ones with a patterned finish for cars, some plugged into the car's factory fitted USB and others to various cigarette lighter transformers and never have an issue apart from the previously mentioned need to unlock the phone, with either of iPhone 6, 7 Plus or my 8 or the iPad Pro 12"

I think I get the need to unlock mostly when connected to the Honda's factory USB port. It doesn't always need to be unlocked when connected in the Honda though.

Get a battery pack. Most will charge the phone a few times over and can be charged in the car too.
Quality ones can be bought for very little money. I bought a Mophie PowerStation 8X 15,000mAh Portable Power Bank, delivered all-inclusive, for £13 a year and two months ago. It even has a bluetooth connection to a phone app to monitor its state of charge remotely. Charges the phone and iPad quicker than most standard mains chargers. Works with all the leads I've tried with it and always carry two leads in my camera bag; one lead for micro USB which can charge a couple of my cameras with batteries in-situ, and the second lead for Apple Lightning.
Just yesterday I was on an outing with friends and the driver happened to have a power bank that I used to charge my iPhone8 using his lead, which was yet another generic copy. Come to think of it I did have to unlock the phone before it started charging.

I always go for Anker chargers and cables, I’ve had a couple of 2m ones for a couple of years now and work faultlessly, same with the high power cig lighter chargers for charging iPad on the go

if its iphone 5.... Upgrade to an 11 as battery is amazing. If you are on contract its cost little but ties you in for two more years. Unless you plan to change your number, I cant see any other issues. Oh and you then get a new genuine cable too!
