Can anybody beat this outrageous mark-up.
Air seat compressor - genuine over £700, (when she said seven hundred I was too aghast to catch the rest of the price) - seat specialist £89.
The only significant difference is there is no plug on the alternative model.

Thats a 780% markup

JCB minidigger track idler bearings, shaft, seals over £200. I could have had one from Poland delivered and with a set of circlips thrown in too for under a £100... and £35 of that was the postage cost.

Not a new thing though, around 1995
Hilux rear spring £80 including new bushes and bolts from Owen springs in Rotherham, Toyota wanted £340 just for the spring.

Two months later the other side needed replacing Owen's awaiting stock of bushes, Toyota asked £79 for the bushes and £24 for 2 special bolts.

Genuine Rear Caliper from Main Dealer £360 & Genuine Shipped in from the US £100

Main Dealer says "obsolete" for parts even for vehicles around the 2007ish Era but still quotes what the price was. Useful... not. Main Dealer now buys odd bits of "obsolete" Genuine parts shipped in from the US from me.

Pinion Seal Genuine, 12 weeks wait from Euro HQ.. Genuine less than a 3rd of the "must be made of gold" price and 3 days shipped in.... Non-Genuine you'll have it tomorrow.

At the end of the day its up to the seller to fix his/her prices, and charge what they can get away with, cost of production etc has never been relevant, the Iphone is the classic one, though lots extra costs are in the marketing, but it does the same thing as a phone costing 90% less, and often the same components

You ether learn to shop around or assume your very expensive premium brand car must need very expensive premium brand parts, if you are the seller getting 10% of the numpties at full price is more profitable than selling to everyone at 20% of the price, the really clever ones sell the same thing as different brands and "catch " all the market.

Most of the examples above are comparing genuine parts to non genuine.

So you actually think all these manufacturers have factories making all of their parts? Absolute rubbish, none of them do and they all buy parts in that they have stamped by the manufacturer with their own labels.

I think what dave means is Genuine vs aftermarket often unbranded like sparex/vap/bepco etc rather than like for like OEM parts so for example a genuine manitou or JCB track rod end from main dealer at retail price for a Dana spicer axle compared to a Genuine Dana spicer track rod end from a Dana Spicer dealer.

Or a genuine manitou Rexroth hydraulic pump to a Genuine Rexroth, All like for like Apples and at retail rather than a peoples individual discounted prices which will always vary.

To be fair Vap, Sparex and Bepco do sell some genuine branded stuff, its not all unbranded aftermarket.

My point is the unbranded aftermarket spares are from the same place as the genuine.
