Interesting to see that her "vet" is actually a media savvy campaigner who has always fought the badger cull, is a former MAFF employee and is a director of Prion Research Group (which publishes independent scientific research and campaigns on animal protection issues)

He doesn't seem to actually work as a hands on vet in any way, shape or form from what I can see.

Poor reporting imo.

I think the two phrases I've highlighted rather cancel each other out.

Bit like saying XR undertake independent research into climate change

Aren't there two vets involved? One's a hands on camelid vet, and the other is the one you describe?
There's an article behind a paywall in the Times that apparently has some quotes from the first, if so.

Could be.

Couple of articles including this one mention a Bob Broadbent. Looks a bit more like a “proper” hands on vet. Also ex president of the British Veterinary Camelid Society.

I am amazed at the level of veterinary knowledge on twitter of some lay people.

Knocking the Chief Vet for stating "tb like lesions ". Further tests required.

I would be angry , and rightly so, if I went to the doctors with lumps and he was dismissive saying well they don't look cancerous, keep calm and carry on!
I would expect further analysis to take place!

One of the thing that annoys me is that some of her high profile supporters argue that some of the reason bTB is such a problem is because farmers are not culling hard enough, the interpretation of all test results should be harsher, more rigorous.
The argument being as with current standards we are leaving residual infection in the herd.

Suddenly with Geronimo those same people are standing the argument on it’s head.

Further to my original post , I think that the "farmer" involved missed an absolute opportunity when she went AWOL during the removal . I can just see the headlines if she'd been there to lead it out . "Hero farmer bows to the iniquity , head held high , and leads her beloved alpaca to be summarily executed " and a host more of similarly evocative and tear -jerking news presentations in the press , and elsewhere. I also notice in the news "No lesions found " and contrarily "Lesions found " ? Whatever next ?

She was only interested in headlines and media attention. Photos showing it being “dragged” away make her look powerless and trodden on. A lowly victim of big government.

They care more about PR for their causes than real animal welfare.

My information, which is born out by cattle farmer’s experiences, is that the owner was offered euthanasia at the premises. She refused that option, preferring to let a mob of rookie strangers catch the animal, check it’s microchip and drag it away through a howling mob.
The vets had a rough time, but it was the owner’s responsibility to give her animal a dignified and quiet end.

This she failed to do, preferring a media circus, which has now encompassed ‘innocent‘ badgers too.

zoonotic Tuberculosis doesn’t get a look in.
