Geronimo.

I don't think he is a reactor as in "got it".
I heard he had the vaccine in NZ and its the antibodies showing a positive?

The very reason we don't vaccinate our cattle?

If my research is correct, this animal had a skin test in NZ, and it’s owner is blaming that tuberculin antigen for its subsequent (two) positive tests. Cattle get the same antigen every 60 days while under restriction.

And skin tests for alpacas are fraught, and give miserable results. In the U.K. they’re not done in the neck, but in the thin soft skin behind the elbow. And with a 2mm tolerance, not 4mm as cattle on standard interpretation. So blood tests are favoured. But what blood tests?
VLA Weybridge have tested several and the alpaca society‘s favourite, Enferplex is the weakest of them all.

If the owner is really a vet, then living in Glos. she should have a more encompassing view of TB in general and TB in alpacas in particular.

And she should also be aware of another alpaca called Balthazar.

Is it right that the Minister is being badgered about Geronimo? Do Geronimo's fans have no reservations?

I understand that the test was not clear, someone said it was Apache result and they may Sioux the Government?

Is the Govt Chief Vet not trusted? How so? You would be a Brave man to argue with the evidence

Owner has started using foul language in interviews- Cussed, her's last stand, it's nearly over.

Surely the rules are clearly sett out?

Typical of the animal rights brigade-one reacts and before you know it, the whole thing spreads out of control

If this animal caught TB 4 years ago when in NZ it would be long dead by now as TB hits this species very hard and fast.
B is a disease which hits every victim differently. It can hit the body in many different parts from the lungs to the bone marrow. Sometimes even when infected the body can successfully fight back and walk off the affected area in a form of cyst sometimes breaking out years later. Only a full pm can positively identify the type a blood test will only identify that the animal has been exposed to the disease

No, Llanpumpsaint is only a 25minute drive from where I am. It was destroyed after all the media palava.

Yes sorry I was thinking about a Blonde Aquantaine Bull in Yorkshire.

Owned/bred by one of the singing farmers & prizes from many shows. Intially tested positive & after much campaigning & a retest came out as negative.

That was because the owner challenged how the test was carried out by the vet, not it’s validity.

George Eustice in the Mail today. It would be easy political win to save the animal so fair play to him for standing up for the law.

In this species they get hit hard, after 4 years if they are not a bag of bones or dead it is unlikely they will have TB.
