very low rainfall not all bad though, you will mainly be planting winter crops then?
40% spring crops - peas & linseed. We are predominantly on pretty thin limestone soils.
I was pleasantly surprised how the winter crops held up last year, but now we have very little moisture at depth so a second dry year will hurt.
Least said about last years spring crops the better!

do you have any cattle or straw for dung swaps in place? we noticed a diference in fields that had plenty of muck last year

I think for the last 4 years we have had a spring drought at some point, last year was more like early summer, but to be honest it's bloody annoying watching potential slip.
often on our exposed not far off the sea site march wheat can struggle to hide a hare , crops came through feb / march looking as full of promise as theve ever done but its not seen any significant rain for weeks and im getting to the point of needing some warmth and a regular rain. Cut the lawn twice in march . might do it before weekend as weve got pals coming over easter but doesnt really need it. I feel as if its been colder longer than last years beast from the east without the rain. It has been windy and strong for a while and cold yet if you look up the aeroplane trails most days they are are as straight as a dye plus the blossom has slowed dramatically/
