This time last year ,drought and all hay finished.
I doubt we will have cut one acre for hay this year by the time we had finished last year, luckily we have done the haylage and will now get a heavy second cut from that ground and some that had sheep on isnt ready yet and at least by the third wk in June it doesnt need turning so much to dry it

Hate to think what all this rain is doing to the price of straw.

Wont make any difference imo.

Depending on location but 1.5t acre of Wheat straw sold standing will be £60/80 acre and delivered in will be the same as last year @ £80/90 for wheat and £90/100 for Barley straw.

Haulage costs and the power stations buying so much means the above values wont be far out,

WB looks very long and a lot of straw around here but WW has suffered with the dry weather and yields currently look like they will be down on 12 months ago.

Don’t think I can ever remember my Winter Oat straw as short as it is this year. Barely over my knees and panicles emerginging/emerged.

We've got oats knee high and shoulder high in the same field(s).

Much bigger variance than one normally expects just from the soil type difference alone.

What seems to have happened is that when the April drought first broke here on May 8th the dry bits were already for ear emergence but the wetter bits were still putting on straw and did another metre for luck.
