Had 25mm here today and actually think we've been quite lucky compared to some with the running total from when it started a few days ago to now is around 65mm.

In the middle.
I thought we were getting away lightly with just about 50mm until last night. Got to the farm today and tipped 38mm out from over night. As we started feeding the cows 2 days ago dew to no grass from the dry weather and the area around the feeders was worse that in the winter the cows are back in the open yard today for a couple of days.

101mm since last Friday here, fortunately I was able to get the grass off this field last week before the rain started. Have brought in a bunch of cows that were next to the buildings this morning, they were quite happy to have some dry hay.

And it’s raining again!

It might be time to take the LITTLE out of the thread title .
We have not had the same volumes every day as the UK but it seems to rain every time a harvester or a sprayer ventures into a field . I said early on in the " little dry thread " that the dry year of 1984 was followed by the 85 monsoon and the bank holiday in june was the start of the wet season that lasted till October . I hope to god that this year does not follow suit .

Both were terrible. 2007 coincided with my son's birth, and as he was born on 2nd September I do at least remember it dried up for us to not need the floatation tyres on the combine all year. 2012 was the first year of my tenancy and could easily have also been my last. I spent a good quantity of August in bed. There was a gap of a month between us cutting the first 40ac of Soissons before we got the other half cut. 2012 was worse than 2007 and we managed it by cutting costs to nil; fallowing half the farm; planting linseed on the other half. Let's hope this year is unlike either of those "1 in 100" year years.

Wettest June on record?

We have already had 98 percent of what we would usually expect for the entire month of June.

But a lot more rain will need to fall in the second half of the month to break the record for the wettest June - set in 2012 with an average rainfall of 149mm.

Up to and including Thursday, June 13, there has been 71.6mm of average rainfall across Britain. The average for all of June is 73.4mm.

A Met Office spokesman told The Telegraph as it stands it's not expected to be the wettest June on record, but some records could tumble regionally.

The average monthly rainfall for June in England is 61.8mm, and already we have seen 127 percent of that figure with 78.3mm in the first 13 days of the month.

A number of regions have seen almost double the expected rainfall:

  • Denbyshire 183 percent (134mm)
  • Durham 151 percent (97mm)
  • Flintshire 225 percent (140.5mm)
  • Herefordshire 169 percent (96.1mm)
  • Leicestershire 184 percent (109mm)
  • Lincolnshire 198 percent (111.2mm)
  • Northamptonshire 160 percent (87.4mm)
  • Nottinghamshire 174 percent (105mm)
  • Rutland 190 percent (107.5mm)
  • Shropshire 193 percent (118mm)
  • Staffordshire 164 percent (109mm)
  • Surrey 157 percent (75mm)
  • Warwickshire 169 percent (96.1mm)

  • edit- only 100mm here so far this June - 125mm in same spell 2012.
