Getting concerned

I was getting very concerned but for the opposite reasons to @Mr Charisma. We've had an acute lack of rain and when I started ploughing on Monday I was pushing the plough in deep to keep it there and the whole soul profile was bone dry, the metal on the plough was hot to the touch!!!

Since then we've had 35mm of rain and what was ploughed and what I'm now ploughing is as near to perfect as possible.

So who's getting concerned, with 70 mm in the rain gauge since Sunday and a lot more to come over the week I certainly am.
If your on free draining soil then probably not but I reside on sticky red marl which can take an age to dry out.
Most of the ground is moved and was in good condition behind the trio, some has been cultipressed and set up well for the drill,,,,,,,,, I thought, , trio came of last night as there is no way that will be used again this season and plough was hitched up so it can be put ready for a couple of weeks time when we might be able to plough the bean ground.
On the plus side I have only got 25 % of seed corn bought, and seed dressers are due this week to dress another 25%,
I might leave it at that, I still have visions of 2013 and having to use all the crap 2012 seed that never went in the ground.
Another plus is that I have a field of rape that has decided to emerge,,,,,,, surely the CSFB pressure has gone now

And at least I will be able to travel east this weekend to see the girlfriend, probably do a bit of over the hedge farming to see how the fat cats who farm around Stamford and Rutland are getting on in the land of milk and honey [emoji16]

Ex osr stubbles going into wheat were all disced and rolled a month ago. These will wait till the last week of October either with a sprinter or combi drill. Got some ex barley stubbles with cover crops that will direct drill with a contractors 750. Thinking mid October for these. In fact we’ve not got the seed yet anyway but can’t say I’m worried presently as our wheat variety drills October - February anyway.

It would be if it wasn't for generations of fym being applied. It's probably the best lightland can be.
I'll ask what others will be thinking, why are you ploughing it, looks clean enough and drillable with a squirt of 360?
Hasten to add I have some nearly as bad that I plough, just cos its easier than having several regimes on the go.

I’ve never seen land just break up after ploughing like that
Really. It's a fine sandy loam and not as bad as the course sand I think @breckland but is on up the road.

I'll go straight into that with a Suffolk coulter.
We do the same for beet in the spring, straight into the press. No wheelings and no blow.

I wasnt going to plough this bit but theres a few anual nettles which are a sod to kill and an odd brome creeping in and I like ploughing and but the time I've buggered about it's nearly as easy and quick to just plough it.

@nick I think you may have missed some of the rain we've had, particularly the storm late Tuesday afternoon.

I was just up the road from you at fen farm getting some plough metal and I saw the storm over attleborough, when I got to the A11 flyover the roads were flooded all the way home. my mate who i left ploughing had to stop. The furrow had 3 inches of water in it and the whole field stood with water!!

Ploughing the middles of a few fields that got a pounding at harvest but not sure whether to go mad with the rain thats forecast. I think I'll leave the headlands until after it's drilled.
Got a bit disced to try and green up ready to drill barley, other than that not much done[emoji848]
