Getting dry

Well... this confirms my suspicions that Norfolk and Suffolk are now the hardest parts of the UK to grow crops... We get rain off the North Sea in the Autumn, and nothing in the Spring.
Ah yes but you get lovely combining conditions, no drying bills and gorgeous soil.
Meanwhile our driers steam and we have to dig wheat out of trailers and tow out our combined twice a day from wet holes!!! Lol

I tipped 5mm out of the gauge yesterday morning. It seemed like we’d had more.
Pulling a bit of black grass last night and the top 3mm is damp. Under that is bone dry. 😢

What a year

So far this year we've had,
20mm Jan
73mm Feb
31mm Mar
30mm Apr
22mm so far in May
Reasonably happy but would take another 25 at the weekend if it was offered, potatoes and carrots all in and have had their pre-em now so a bit of time for it to soak away before we need to go on those tramlines again! The cereal would cope with 10mm a week from now to harvest as we are only ever a week away from drought stress.
I've got lots of irrigation capacity and we've not started on the spuds yet so I'm tempted to do cereals if it stays dry but I'm unsure on the best timings to maximise water use.

Well here in east Kent we have basically had nothing - extase is in ear starting to look a bit stressed. No rain in forecast - had around 15mm in last 7 weeks with a drying wind most days.

Everything struggling here, wheat, barley, beet and maize.

Jan 9mm
Feb 49.5mm
March 28mm
April 6.5mm
May 12.5mm

April and May rainfall has fallen in such small amounts that it has evaporated so quickly. The last meaningful rain we had was 10.5mm on the 16th March
