Had a ewe drown herself a week ago and left a pair of lambs, one sooks the bottle no bother the other has no interest in sooking. Any tips on getting it to sook??

what sort of bottle/teat is it ? we have one that wouldn't suck and found that having a teat that the milk would run out of slowly on its own and a bottle that would let the air in easy the milk would run in her mouth and she would swallow it, after a few times like that she started sucking, she sucks well now but we always have to put it in her mouth to start with, she doesn't have the sense to catch hold herself

Same principle but we use coke bottles and the screw on teats which allows you to squirt it in.

Presume the op has tried the usual tricks of tickling its tail, covering its eyes or making sucking noises?

If you can get it to suck another ewe for a feed or 2 just to get it back into sucking - a week of tubing isn't great.

Maybe leave it for a day or so without even trying to feed it, sometimes trying them several times a day makes them twisted, and a day without helps.

Have you got other pets on a machine or shepherdess?
Sometimes they train each other.

Only got two at the minute and their both on the bottle

She sucks a couple of times then just fights.
The teats one of the yellow bases with red rubber teats, got one with a small hole and one with a bigger hole, she refuses both

we got on better with a bigger teat. the little red ones she would just shove out the side of her mouth

Sometimes helps to put your thumb by the side of its mouth when feeding a bottle . Don't know why whether it helps make them feel like they are on a under with the skin contact .

I wouldn't expect you to, but it might be worth a try to if it got it started.

I had a calf here that wouldn't take powdered milk after it's mother died, I was pretty annoyed with it until one day I milked a cow in a pen next door and put the teat back in its mouth and it sucked straight away.

I'll try that, thanks 👍
