Getting rid of the diet feeder?

Go South out of Christchurch on 1 heading for Ashburton. Then just after Rakaia Island there's a yard on the right hand side of the road with loads of new keenans in.

Probably the exact same machines parked their 10 years ago when i lived down there.

The odd farmer gets an idea to get 1 every now and then. Standard wagons outnumber them about 20 to 1 over here

Just read this thread through. So curious. @Rossymons what are you putting your silage out with now?

@Beef farmer are you still happy with self feed? What’s the waist like?

@jerseycowsman how is your Emily bucket going? Assume it was one of their mixer buckets as the link no longer works.

Anyone else changed either way in the last few years?

I currently use an old forage box which I’m thinking of replacing. Have it on big tyres to be able to feed into a trough. Not sure I’d be able to do that with the newer ones.

No longer using the mixer wagon as no longer have the cows.

If I had my time again...

For setup I would probably have kept the wagon - any wagon so long as it worked. But I would have only used it as a means of getting my clamp grass silage in a straight line as we have 3 100ft passages.

I would have bolted a cage to hold a battery which would have powered the weigher. Fill it up, hitch it on and spew it out. One tractor to feed 200 cows once day.

Why any waste? Il almost guarantee people waste more grabbing it out and putting it In a wagon

Yes, still using the Emily loader bucket/conveyor box. Very pleased with it

Was just in the photo looked like some was pulling back amongst their feet, but it also looked like the pit had just been opened. I know when we self fed store cattle as a kid, we always had a c channel iron with wood sleepers in it to make a barrier at the bottom.

Loving it. Great company to work for, enjoying the job and learning new stuff everyday. Being paid to wander around cows all day - cushty

The service is expanding again so I think I've joined at the right time.

I’m delighted for you. Sometimes thinking outside the box and changing takes more balls than to stay the same. Fair play to you :D
