Good money to be made from camping, glamping and the like. The bulk of you no doubt have a wealth of beautiful surroundings and potentially very picturesque farms. It's cold hard cash you can earn sat in your armchair at home. Having a photogenic farm and significant other helps.

I can see/hear the conversation now....

"Darling, I am wondering if we should branch out into Glamping in that nice spot by the River"

"Oh yes, that sound interesting dear, what are the criterai we need to meet?"

"Well, according to this chap I follow on the Farming Forum, I need a photogenic Wife*...."

Cue deathly silence....

Or as we are a "right on" PC bunch, insert spouse of choice!! :)

I have wondered what the Planners would say to a composting toilet when they ask what will happen to the waste material, and you point at the muck heap!

I am hearing mixed results with the water treatment plants, but all 2nd hand TBF. For a small pod or two, a simple underground tank will be the easiest method and then vaccy tank it out as required.
I think planners will also ask what happens once you have filled your vaccy tank...

The Glamping show in september is going ahead, and is an absolute wealth of information, products and knowledge from people already in the industry.

Never found it much use if I'm honest. Its good to see what's on offer lots and lots of hard structures and little canvas, I just find the whole thing a sales pitch.

Surely, its a seasonal thing with pods. Time you price in pods/tents etc/infrastructire/drainage/advertising/insurance and not being able to leave the farm in the summer it cant be that profitable. If the return on the investment is 3 years then by then the tents will need to be replaced and endless maintenance on pods. Like anything you need to enjoy the public and have time to sort out issues. The glamping industry is well saturated its no longer unique. At the end of the day its the profit margin you have to love not the idea. I'll only holiday in the UK is the weather is fantastic supposed to be in France now (postponed until next year) I would never book a week in advance here just too risky. Got 2 tents much rather that.

Yes its very seasonal, we open Easter til end of September 90% canvas based tents and yurts. Some of our tents are coming up on 6 years old, and are still like new. 3 year roi is easily achieved much easier than anything ag related if I'm being honest. Taking into account a bell tent with decking, electric, and all accessories inside is making profit after 34 nights @ £100/night. Once the site has been established. Maintenence is not a hard thing either, scheduling and dealing with issues asap is key. Profit is simply down to how well run you are nothing else some people do not know how to run a business either. I run my own site and consult for 6 others. Some have 3 units making as much or more than those with 10. Depends on the market, basic, better best. Most years on a local level I would dominate the tourist trade with 1 and 2 nights my bread and butter while the other glamping site down the the road would be catering for families staying a while and wanting to do activities.

What’s the story with planning for fishing pond ?

I did my own planning a few years ago, my pond has a dam one end so needed engineering plans but apart from that was fairly straight forward, had some silliness about a bypass ditch as neighbours were worried about my lake stealing all the water from theirs (even though I pointed out there's is not inline and is spring fed!) my 2 acre lake filled in 3 weeks in the autumn. we only have winter fill so it drops a couple of feet in summer then refills in winter. was swimming in it this evening after work, building a lake is a lovely thing! oh, I put mine in as a 'conservation pond' as it is such, and I argued out of a 'no business use' clause.
