Dad had and Brother has Glaucoma, so I'm urged to go every 12 months without fail, though happy to say my eyes seem too have stopped deteriorating and it's three times since the last change of glasses.
It is 'vital' that you attend annually if there is a history of glaucoma. The pressure test is the important one with the peripheral vision test as a backup.

I didn't wear glasses until I was 9. The headmaster wrote to my parents saying I couldn't read the blackboard even though I was sitting in the front row. After my eye test and a pair was prescribed a whole new world opened up to me. If you don't need glasses, just be thankful.
I couldn't either

A new optician talked me into Varifocals, terrible things, looking at the newspaper it was like the print was jumping about all over the place, fortunately they were sold on the condition if I didn't like them they would change them, good as their word using the same frames they made a pair of Bifocals, which I'd had before, and then with a pair of cheap frames made some single lens for the computer work.

My optician likewise with varifocals . I was tempted by the fact that I would only need one pair of specs for all situations , and to be fair , my son finds that is the case . Not me though . And as I said earlier , I'm certainly not about to visit him any time soon , considering the position of his shop , and also the bulk of his clientele . If I have to , I'll lose my money and be grateful that I'm not Covid burdened .

I took several weeks to get used to Varifocals - straight lines in my peripheral vision were curved and I had to adjust my head angle to get the right bit of lens for a particular distance. After a few weeks the brain sorts it out and you automatically move your head.
I nearly gave up, but several years later they are ok. It took my wife about half an hour to get used to hers. Don’t know what that proves.

Glasses are a new adventure in middle age.
I went for an eye test yesterday and the optician says I now need distance glasses in addition to the ready readers I use for close work.
