Glyphosate ..... adjuvant ??

Since the formulation has been changed , how does everyone find it ? We typically get more drift and it seems that it doesn't work as well/ as quickly especially at lower rates. Have asked the agronomist what we could put with it and had a vague ish response about using a product which his company markets. Thoughts ?

My agronomist recomends adding Volta to the mix to get it to stick better I did find last year that the performance without it was not as effective I tell you better in 10 days as I put some on last night and it rained 3 hours later so a fair test for it

Thanks Steevo, the whole adjuvant thing has always had a slight muck and mystery element to me so any help is good ! ( mostly because of the companies selling them )

There are lots of adjuvants doing lots of different things in different ways. Many on here rate Li 700 or spryte aqua also seems popular... I tend to use c gold at quite low rates and keep the glypho rates robust. Just had probably my worst ever glypho kill though, can't understand it. Doesn't seem to have worked that well on fat hen even. Not happy. Had adjuvant plus 4lit generic glyph. A fortnight ago on an overcast morning after rain previous rain as had avoided application in the hot weather.

Lots of threads on glyphosate adjuvants if you do a search, including the one @Steevo linked.

Products like Companion Gold (Agrovista) are very good but can cost more than a stronger dose of glyphosate! I paid £2.30/litre for Monsanto generic Motif so it's worth not being too greedy by cutting rates. There are drift retardants like C Gold on the market - there are lots of options. The main one here with hard water is a conditioner that stops the calcium cations locking up the glyphosate. Many of these adjuvants contain drift retardants too, though drift can be managed by other ways like nozzle & pressure choice, or waiting until the wind drops...

The better branded Roundup products will have lots of adjuvants built in - that's part of why you pay extra for the Monsanto branded gear.

(I did a simple search for glyphosphate and one for round up without finding the specific subject)
Talking to other locals , I have found that knowledge and opinion is varied and sketchy …… so I thought I d ask the informed and wise...………..;););)

Who does your agronomist work for? Most of the main distributors have their own branded adjuvants.

In the quest for lower cost of production for commodity generic glyphosate, many of the decent adjuvants have been taken out, not least the tallow amine that was found to be the slightly cancerous part of glyphosate. If you can list what weeds you've got, what growth stage, what water you're using etc you may get a more informed opinion. 2 leaf blackgrass or small cereal volunteers will need less than big clumps of couch grass or waxy perennials like rosebay willowherb.

Ha , we grow weeds well ! We have a broad spectrum of weeds and a mixed farm. So glyphosphate is used for pretty much all applications. Our agronomist is one who recommends C Gold. I know it works , but I don't know what alternatives there are... cost, rates, efficacy etc.

I can't find any approved adjuvant called Attack. They should all be listed here:

Perhaps it's a water conditioner as opposed to an adjuvant. It wouldn't be listed then...

After many hours of research I'm trying Li 700 with generic Glyphosate here this year. So far I have used it when spraying winter barley volunteers prior to drilling OSR, and I've seen the quickest kill in years.

I used 2l/ha 360g/l Glyphosate + 0.25 Li 700 at a water volume of 100 l/ha. De Sangosse did recommend an additional water conditioner e.g. X-change, if the water is very hard.

I do plan to do a trial with different Glyphosate rates and Li 700 rates, with and without X-change on some Vol OSR prior to wheat drilling, IF I get time to mess about. I'll take some pics if I do get chance.

Does roundup kill fat hen ? :scratchhead:

I find 3lt of Monsanto based glypo eg motif, and full rate activator 90 of cropspray 11e to be doing a cracking job of big thistles, couch and fathen.

I do always use rain water for glypo which I think is the biggest factor in it's efficiency.
