Glyphosate rates

Hi

With current glyphosate prices high and static what sensible rates does everyone use of a generic 360 to get control.

When it was £50 a tub it was ok to put a ‘bit’ in for good measure but at £150 a tub it’s adding possibly £15-20 acre if you add in a wetter!

Thoughts on everyones rates for stubbles/spraying scruffy crops etc?

2 litres/ha. Hard water here, so dissolve some ammonium sulphate and add to the tank first. 1.5L plus the AS will work for cereal dessication.

Really thick Matt of brome seedlings around the field edge can shrug off 2L, needs 3-4L.

Try pricing Roundup PowerMax Always worked out more expensive, but think it's maybe now similar or even a bit cheaper. 2L liquid 360 = 1kg PowerMax iirc.

I used to use 3lt in stubbles plus a bit of water conditioner/wetter now i use plenty of adjuvant and 2.5lt. Any less is irresponsible imo.

I was suggested 1.5 + wetter to tidy up winter ploughing pre drilling, after all, that is all Sting CT was, went on in good conditions.
It was not enough. As above, some BG not killed, bordering irresponsible with hindsight, because that is the way to get resistance.

I’ve only ever used 1.5-2L/ha (+ Exclude, etc) on stubbles or pre-harvest. We don’t have blackgrass here though, just volunteers and amg normally.
Had to go a lot higher when we came here, in order to kill couch with pre-harvest spray.

Don’t go too low or you’ll breed resistanc.
does any one know why resistance builds up in some sprays and not others still using avadex after 60 years glyphosate every year for 30 years

have you seen any grass weed resistance to glyphosate in uk fields

in fungicide resistance it was the highly effective full rate usage that built up resistance quickest stobs to septoria and sdhis
same with topic and antlantis

does any one know

Oh how the tables of turned.... No more 'I pUttIng iT aLL in teH TaNk!' strangely now it is so expensive.

Anyway how resistance to fungicides and herbicides works differs.

I have used the stiffer doses of the of 360g products to destroy full blown grass leys. If you are targeting little hairs of blackgrass or ryegrass coming up in stubbles/stale seedbeds you do not need 3L/ha.

If targeting broad leaves may be consider putting something else in the tank like 2,4-d.?

You can use kyelo (which is very useful for rapid melt down of say OSR volunteers) but beware the reducing loadings of glyphosate in it, it too will need an adjuvant. Also beware post application timing restrictions. You will not need the full 5 litre rate for stubbles unless you have grown some monster thistles or something. You would need to head for the higher rate if you were going after weedy permeant pasture say.

As with all the glyphosate products now, use an adjuvant, use quality water and match your rate to the size of the target. I should think you will get on fine with 1L/ha pre-harvest unless you have couch involved.

X-change, validate or li700 or similar reputable adjuvant products are where it is at and you won't go far wrong.

You will note that grass species are exceptionally sensitive to glyphosate compared to broad leaved weeds generally speaking. I know blackgrass has obvious bad press and scares people but you aren't gaining anything from bigger doses of glyphosate on stubbles unless you really are waiting for it to get welly height or something.

Did some pre seed burn down today at half litre an acre plus ammonia sulphate to soften the water. I always used to go with plenty of water and had mixed results but have since changed to 5 gallons an acre and it’s made a ton of difference. even on pre harvest desiccation very few acres would be higher than 7 gallons.

Recommendations for 600g/l 2,4-d mixtures with glyphosate. From easy to dfficult weeds
