Plan was to put up a new shed here this spring / summer, planning has been passed, but i'm really doubting if i should be spending money on a shed right now, thoughts ?
Is the shed only being put up for use in the next few months and have no use for it afterwards?
Bet the answer is no and you probably have stock or fodder to be stored kept in the shed for next winter? Crack on if can get a build slot?

I am about to put planning in for another shed as have plenty of stock to fill it and really life got to carry on hasn't it?

Generally shed builders require 30% up front, 30% after delivery of materials and the balance upon completion. I say you stand a real chance of loosing the 30% to secure the job so I would hold off. Certainly all our plans here are shelved for the time being. Thats forward sales, forward input purchases, machinery trade and swaps etc.

Shed builder said he doesn't invoice for anything until shed is finished

Wow!! I was about to post that I thought I was fortunate with the local shed builders that usually invoice once when the frame is up, and again once cladded. To finish a whole shed before invoicing is incredible - that's a shed builder worth supporting!

Only thing I'd be careful of is whether the shed will get finished in one go. Depends on the size of the project. The last thing I'd want is a shed half built and then more/tighter lockdown.

I was planning to repair a tiled stone barn roof this spring - I'm very glad the guys haven't started as I wouldn't fancy them taking the roof off then it sitting for a couple of months getting wet before they can re-cover it.

Make a start on the footings and feel your way forward. Like said above don't pay out too much up front. If you are unable to proceed at least you have started. You will have a legitimate cause to tell local planning to go forth and x. What are they seriously going to do about a resumption?
Advice from an amateur nobody is totally free:)

Lol no! I don't work that side of the fence but I did get planning permission for one of your neighbours and was told similar. The only council that I have ever heard ask for such minimal development to start constitute work!
Let’s hope even further West into Pembs has the same!
The electric pole should be logged on WPD’s system, it is no longer there as I have put in 3 phase!

I would say so as well - we had the opposite experience - got a shed kit and got the supplier to put it up and they will never be back on site - quite happy with the shed and the workforce but absolutely pestered to death by the accountants - every payment made as agreed but phone call after phone call before they were due

Here monmouthshire ,pay regs ,inform buiding inspector ,site vist to discuss what where how with inspector, job done started

Got permitted development for a shed about 20 years ago.

Found the letter from council the other day. There was no mention of timescale for when it had to be started, or when it had to be completed.

Presumably I can still just crack on with it?

That is, if you can call 20 years later 'cracking on'
I'm not sure on planning from 20 years ago, I was only just leaving school but I believe the decision notices now state that it is allowed providing it complies with the relevant part of the GPDO. In the GPDO it will state the time period.

My neighbour is doing this and at groundwork stage presently. The company supplying the base material has told him its full money upfront even though he's an existing customer over many years. Reason being is they have £2 million outstanding from other clients that are presently not at work due to the lockdown so not paying anything.
So they will only supply now onwards with cash up front.
Neighbour is jittery because its £20,000 of stone etc and now knowing they are owed £2 million he's concerned will he get the stuff if the supply company go bang.
He's going back to them with a proposal of a BACS transfer daily for the amount they wish to deliver so hopefully he'll get the £20,000 worth over a few days.

Wise man. I wouldn’t fancy paying someone up front in that scenario
