Going to a 750a

I agree I don’t think the 750a is faultless I’m still going to use my low disturbance Subsoiler to drill rape as I can put fert on at the same time to give it a boost. Only planning on having first wheats so 750a will manly be following bean and rape stubble in winter and putting beans into Covercrops in spring.

You never see a 750a for sale second hand, they are the best of the offset disc drills. Cross-slot less blackgrass as the disc is straight running. Offset disc Coulter's can bring black grass seed up into the germination zone on the heel of the disc. We tried disc drill and Sabre tine in same field far more grass weed behind the disc drill.

been offered a 750a for a direct drilling grass, corn and catch crops. think its 20 year old. the bloke said the discs are worn and are ideal for grass sowing. Are we mad to be looking at this drill for our first time into driect drilling on a stock farm?

Be aware, as good as the 750 is, it is a high maintenance machine. A twenty year old machine will be fine, but, if it has not been maintained, the cost of bringing it up to spec could be high.
I was talk to guy a few weeks ago who had bought a second hand 750 which had cost 10k+ to fix.

You will need to spend money on it. For sure. I'd wager the discs, boots and bushings are well worn. Personally I would look to update the closing wheels and firming wheels. How much are they selling it for? My honest feeling is you may to spend up to £8k on it but it will then be an excellent drill.

What can you buy it for? If you can buy a old 3m for about £10k then crack on. I wouldn't be looking to spend much more on it. Shame is the parts are dear but if you lived in the States you could do it up for half the price

You don’t want old discs for drilling grass.
