The car is as much about enjoment and comfort with me .when your sitting for five hours like i was yeserday you need this
I do a bit of everything with my camera so it needs to be universaly good .i know that d500 is top dog on sport shots but not shure how it compairs in low light and still photography .my brother in law has one and also has the d800 and a few others .depending on what hes up to will determin his choice

I suggest you try the Volvo out. Its universally acclaimed for having the best and most comfortable seats of any cars, plus it has cool ventilation as a reasonably priced option. The Cross Country V90 shooting brake won't be in for a couple of weeks yet to see at your local dealer.

As I said, about the camera, whatever floats your boat. If you enjoy big cameras with big sensors, enjoy them. The D500, for all its undoubted attributes, is an APS-C size sensor though. Remember that canon lenses won't fit Nikon and vis-versa. Its not like Olympus and Panasonic, which are interchangeable.

Yes i know .i hope my lenses which i have paid a lot for will last me for many years so looks like im stuck with Nikon .

Check whether your lenses actually fit and are suitable for whatever you fancy as a new camera, irrespective of them all being Nikon. They don't necessarily match. Do your homework before spending your money.

I've only gone and bought another camera! It was just too tempting. I'm addicted to sophisticated technology.

This means that I have another camera for sale if anyone is interested. A super little advanced compact Fuji X20 complete with bag and a couple of spare batteries that have been hardly used.

Oh, the new one? Yes, it's a Panasonic GX80, which is about the same size as the x20 when fitted with the appropriate lens. Why have I done it? Because I'm soft in the head (according to the missus). The advantage to others is that it gives the opportunity to purchase a lightly used modern camera at a superb saving on new.
Blast from the past I know- but did you sell this in the end @Cowabunga ?

My sister's looking for a decent compact before heading away to NZ.

Yes, I have not tried to sell it other than the above. It has been used by Sian recently to cover the UCAC conference and little more. It really is a super little camera with a bright f2.8 lens. Also a rangefinder style optical viewfinder with overlayed information. Three batteries and mains charger. Original box and virtually indistinguishable from new.

This is where you'll find info on it and you can download the brochure on the right hand side

Download the manual here. http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/manuals/x/#x_compact_camera

It is a silver and black model. Comes with the lens hood, which is unused. Original lens cap. A delightful and satisfying camera with many useful features like silent mode for discrete use in concerts etc.

Price? £195. Not cheap but it's not a cheap camera. Good value though at less than half what it cost new plus the extras.
PS The batteries are very small. It also does very good video but it does get hot after 15 minutes of continuous shooting, which I've only done once.

@Cowabunga just thought I 'd mention that your old D5000 is still going strong (y)
Great to hear it. I hope it's given you a lot of pleasure and great pictures to keep.
I also sold a G6, of which I still have an identical one and is my most used camera, and a Nikon P500 on here. I hope they are both giving sterling service as well.

I'm sitting here in Bristol in the car in the rain at the moment. I've just counted how many cameras I have with me, and it's phenomenal.
There's five built into the car, one each on three phones plus this iPad, plus I have a Panasonic G7, GX80 and an Olympus E-M10, plus a bag full of lenses, filters, batteries etc. So that's 12 cameras of various types.
No, wait. Forgot about the dash cams front and back. So 14 in all :cat:

Thanks- I'll mention it to her. If I know my sister, she'll want something fairly simple to point and shoot.

This is simple. Point and shoot compact cameras are dead. Killed by phone cameras. If she wants something better, especially in low light, plus optical zoom, an advanced compact like this is the way to go even if shot mostly in Auto mode.

Fuji colours straight out of the camera are also amazing, although if it does have a weakness it is that it smudges green detail at a distance somewhat for technical reasons to do with its advanced sensor. Most people wouldn't notice this unless viewing greatly enlarged, so-called 'pixel-peeking'.

I mean, just look at the style of this camera. Its good enough to be a mantelpiece ornament. She'd be the envy of all her artistic friends and, if she was that way inclined, could learn more about photography in the bargain.

Find the X20 microsite which gives a nice summary of the camera here

If considering a 'travel-zoom' camera, you should consider whether the zoom range is necessary, because images from 'better' cameras can be zoomed on the computer and still give equal or better picture quality while also being far better in low light and contrasty [sunny with shadow] conditions. There is certainly a place for TZ cameras and I have one myself, a Panasonic TZ6, but it is at the happy-snappy end of the spectrum. The current version is the TZ90 I think but the TZ60 and TZ80 are still available at Currys for £250 and £329 respectively.

The TZ100 is the advanced compact to have today but it costs rather more, commensurate with its capability, at £550. I don't think many of these are sold, because interchangeable lens cameras like the Olympus E-M10 and Panasonic GX80 sell for about the same price with their compact kit lenses.
If she's into selfies, then the GX800 may be the way to go. This is an entry level but highly capable little camera, although because it is new to the market it may be priced as high as the better GX80. Just checked and it's £399, so not too bad, but twice the price of my lightly used X20 of course.
The Olympus is not suitable for beginners who aren't really into technical cameras by the way. Its menu system is far to complex and confusing. All the others are fine imo. All can be used in fully Auto mode of course and have face recognition and all that jazz, for easy accurate automatic facial focussing.

Please don't waste your money on those compact cameras at around £100 and less. They are equalled and often eclipsed by a good phone camera.
