Potato harvest in full swing here too, all trucks' not tractor/trailer, all loaded to the max but still rare to see any spuds on the road..........they are a stable crop on a vehicle...................your cops are stupid for issuing a citation for that load, not very bright are they..?

Sadly a good proportion of the poplulation are like this.

Happy to tell others they aren't doing the job right, but have never done or know how to do the job themselves.

It all boils down to a lack of trust.....more often than not in farmers who are perceived as being the lowest of low.

I also think it's very sad how quickly people jump straight to reporting people. No friendly chat, no discussion, no education, no chance to see a different perspective. No opportunity for anyone to learn. It's straight to detention. Just like with a school kid, all that achieves is getting peoples back up, rather than encouraging them to see a different perspective in future.

So what's an acceptable amount of spuds to lose? 5? 10? 10 kgs? 100kgs? 1 tonne?
None, and I don’t think that outfit would be within legal weight either, we all make errors of judgement and what’s to say the potatoes were from that load?

But the glee with which it is reported when on the same week the police have stood back and pandered to protestors deliberately putting their and others lives at risk by running into live traffic to cause massive disruption to the public says to me the priorities are muddled up. Plucking the low hanging fruit.

it’s a numbers game, the more successful prosecutions, the better the stats.

A neighbour here has a big pile of road chips, there was an old couple filled 2 flowerpots without asking him, he reported them, the old boy in his 70s was investigated, charged and convicted of theft.

what a crock of shite.

Complainer should of been told to grow up and go away, and the old boy told not to do it again, but that can’t happen anymore, there’s no discretion, once it’s on the system they have to follow it thru and because it counts as a successful prosecution it’s back slaps all round back at Scotsquad HQ. The officer told me that himself.

I'd say a fair sized family could easy survive on the spilled potatoes on the roads around here, never heard of any of the carters being charged.

Used to love this program

It may boil down to a lack of trust but the farmer still got a good roasting despite coming up with a half baked excuse he knew he had had his chips

McCain will reject any load that isn't covered here.
It's not fecking rocket science, heaped loads will result in spilt spuds if they're not covered. It isn't exactly a difficult job.
Why draw attention to yourself with a load like that? :banghead:
As someone else said, it's a bloody good job they didn't get weighed.

Lucky they didn’t follow a maize trailer with the stuff blowing off the top like confetti
That will get you a ticket here too if the wrong cops following. A lot of the silage gangs have covers for their trucks if going any distance on major roads.

simple, we are easy targets, and the common belief we get millions in subsidies, means, us getting nicked, is a popular move, plus we hold up traffic, leave mud on the roads, have large machinery, don't work 9-5, and regularly cause a stink, oh, and drive posh vehicles.
The fact that most of that is untrue, doesn't matter, it's what the public have been led to believe, farmer bashing is good news, after all, we are destroying the planet, with 'intensive modern farming', and that, has to be right, chris packup say's it.

That outfits been running from other side of Telford down the a5 since last week roads backed up for miles I’d suspect that there just looking for an excuse to bugger them off should be a lorry job the distance there drawing
There`s been a story in the farming press suggesting beet growers may have to lead their own in to the factory . Apparently there`s a national shortage of lorry drivers (estimated at 100,000 ) in case you hadn`t heard.....
Not everyone `s aware of this shortage - it seems the government have only just found out this weekend too....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ( I wonder if they`ve all been in a lorry load of sand with their heads buried in it.......)

A bit of really good news is that the government seem to think this shortage will all be over in 3 months when they`ll send any foreign drivers daft enough to help them out back to where they came from.....

My dad told me a story from when he was young and after a day at a racetrack on the way out there was potato carting happening near the entrance to Oulton Park and a few potatoes had been dropped on the road. These potatoes were gathered up, and with a camping stove from the back of the car they had a meal of what tasted like the best jacket potatoes he ever had... or at least a memory that stood out and made them the best.

I think in times gone by any dropped spud would be picked up and treated like some sort of free-supper prize by anyone lucky enough to find them. I guess people were a lot poorer back then.

Or a road gritter! ;)

Good point well made. I hope in the winter someone takes a photo and adds it as a reply to this twitter post.

Decided to Google for Staffs Highways Gritters. Would you believe it….they’ve had insecure loads too!

The 5 spuds in the original post were probably either left as not their job to pick up, chucked in the bin at HQ, or impounded as evidence.
