simple, we are easy targets, and the common belief we get millions in subsidies, means, us getting nicked, is a popular move, plus we hold up traffic, leave mud on the roads, have large machinery, don't work 9-5, and regularly cause a stink, oh, and drive posh vehicles.
The fact that most of that is untrue, doesn't matter, it's what the public have been led to believe, farmer bashing is good news, after all, we are destroying the planet, with 'intensive modern farming', and that, has to be right, chris packup say's it.
just sheet your loads its in black and white and law for 25 plus years welcome to the world of haulage

it's all very well shouting no drivers, import them, but isn't europe suffering a chronic shortage of drivers as well ? 400,000 was the figure l read.
1,000,000 jobs advertised here, in the UK, it has to be right to lower our unemployment numbers here, by getting people back to work, it's 'the how to achieve it', that's the bugger, but also one of the reasons we voted to leave the EU. We are in for a bumpy ride, short term, but one can only hope it actually works out in the end,

Bloke reported for 5 potatoes in road

25 protesters sitting in road: policewoman asks if there’s anything she can do for them.

🙄
Our local rural police berated me on Twitter for saying as much - then they spouted some PR about being 100% behind rural policing.

Most of the time they're 100% as far behind any of the really dangerous criminals around here as they can be with their blue lights flashing so they don't catch them.

We have to dodge rocks on the road that get stuck in 8 wheeler lorry tyres ,,they come from the quarry and never check if theres anything in them before going on the main road ,,then the AD carts are never covered and theres chopped maize everywhere ,looks like a snow storm .
never see the police round here .
They told me yesterday they were 100% behind rural policing - I could only agree that they were 100% behind

Potato harvest in full swing here too, all trucks' not tractor/trailer, all loaded to the max but still rare to see any spuds on the road..........they are a stable crop on a vehicle...................your cops are stupid for issuing a citation for that load, not very bright are they..?
Had they got any evidence the potatoes in the road fell from that trailer? If not they could be told to pursue other avenues of investigation. They had enough evidence to pursue an investigation when the Tracker on my quad led them to a nearby caravan park, but not the manpower at the weekend to get it back. Next time it snows, leave them on top of a hill in a blizzard directing traffic.

None, and I don’t think that outfit would be within legal weight either, we all make errors of judgement and what’s to say the potatoes were from that load?

But the glee with which it is reported when on the same week the police have stood back and pandered to protestors deliberately putting their and others lives at risk by running into live traffic to cause massive disruption to the public says to me the priorities are muddled up. Plucking the low hanging fruit.

it’s a numbers game, the more successful prosecutions, the better the stats.

A neighbour here has a big pile of road chips, there was an old couple filled 2 flowerpots without asking him, he reported them, the old boy in his 70s was investigated, charged and convicted of theft.

what a crock of shite.

Complainer should of been told to grow up and go away, and the old boy told not to do it again, but that can’t happen anymore, there’s no discretion, once it’s on the system they have to follow it thru and because it counts as a successful prosecution it’s back slaps all round back at Scotsquad HQ. The officer told me that himself.
They're busy doing nothing, working the whole shift through, trying to find lots of things not to do.
They're busy going somewhere, pretending to chase a crime, they'd like to all be happy but they really don't have the time!!

was he breaking the law yes would a talking too have been better than a fine doubtful judging by the responses on here it would have been ignored as farmers have the right to pick and choose which laws they follow as of course they are feeding the nation
Only askin so dont go down my throat but if he had the trailer filled level would he of been ok? Does that mean a dump trailer should only be filled level aswel? Even though if its done right the load will never move unless the trailer is tipped over in which case a cover or net WONT hold the contents in the trailer anyway

Just stick greedy boards round the sides so PC Plod can't see the load any more, job sorted.
Yonks ago, when we had a Beet Factory, I lugged many a ton into Allscott. Greedy boards were vital to get a "full" load, but the secret to keeping the powers that be, happy, was to keep the load below the greedy boards!

The trouble is that some trailer drivers seem to see it as a matter of pride to load everything to the top, and then heap up in the middle!

That outfits been running from other side of Telford down the a5 since last week roads backed up for miles I’d suspect that there just looking for an excuse to bugger them off should be a lorry job the distance there drawing
Think you might have the wrong outfit there… every time Iv seen them this week theyve been coming from Tamworth direction heading back for there yard … passed them earlier and still doing full loads so likely not phased them

Even level or below the sides you’ll still need to sheet it your securing the load for normal traffic conditions so heavy braking swing round roundabouts accelerating etc you can not really on gravity only you are not securing it to stay there in the event of an accident as the forces involved would be very hard to secure against

Would not be possible to totally secure spuds in an overturn unless u had a hydralic operated steel cover
