Goodnature A24 Rat Trap

Similar post on Buildings thread but not getting any attention.

Has anybody used these, looks good. Uses air powerd bolt to kill rats which are attracted in by lure. IMG_0393.PNG

Not that expensive relative to rat poison. I don't like using the stuff, makes the dogs fart when they eat dead ones and barn owls would benefit too.

Any thoughts / feedback?

Apparently developed to kill hedgehogs in New Zealand where they are a pest. Wildlife groups very upset it is being approved in UK. Unclear if it poses a threat to UK hedgehogs as apparently a selective bait to attract rats only is used.

According to the blurb the bolt is too high up. Imagine a hedgehog could get where a rat can though?

I would site one in the grain tunnels, surely best site for species specific results and less carnivores to eat the dead?

Works for moles too I hear

I think I will, they aren't expensive for what they are and if they save my barn owls then has to be worth it.

Really want to hear from someone who already has one though...

We bought two exactly because i don't like having poison around the farm no matter how carefully it's used.

And in three months of use, the clicker that tells you how many times the bolt has fired .....

remains on one - the test fire!
TBH, it may be that we don't have them sited ideally (bolted to breeze blocks for ease of movement) or that there is just too much other feed available that the rats aren't bothered about sticking their heads up the tube for a sniff at the attractant or that they just stimulate too much neophobia in rats (perhaps UK rats are more intelligent than NZ ones???). I would be upset if they killed stoats & weasels though which is the other likely target. Hedgehogs wouldnt get up the tube IMO

WWIW, I would save your money and buy kill traps instead if you dont want to poison

thanks for that bald rick, you have just saved me £100. I bought a catch alive rabbit trap last year and baited it with a carrot. first night a rabbit and I thought my rabbit problems were over for ever. However since then I haven't caught a single other one in months trying several different places, these things are only cheap if they actually work!

I see there are a few YouTube videos of these, the traps are fastened at an angle, rather than 90* to the floor..

I'd like to try them sited in various places and at different angles.

Want to sell one @Bald Rick ?

Interesting, this is the risk. I'm curious to try. Fen traps are ok but really need checking more often then I have time for. Did you use the cards to see if were you have sited the unit got Rolando's vote?

I thought one of the selling points was predation kept the area clear of dead with no risk.

Yeah but I wanted to count dead bodies to see if it works!

we have them here got another 5 the other day
siteing them in a good area is a key some areas waste of time will not work due to rats etc not keen on eating there too light or to much movement of other animals
not fully sold on the new bait yet people say rats like choclate now i don't notice the choco bickies getting eaten but a bag of flour will get eaten ummmmm think it's 2 legged rats eating them
have had dogs at vet 2 times with rat poison big cost so at 199 bucks a trap cheeper than a new dog

Im getting nothing but negative feedback about the A24 goodnature and rats. I know people who have had them in barns riddled with rats and have had zero success, and that them being in place long enough to be past any neophobia excuses. I do a lot of pest control on farms and had been looking to utilise this trap into my day to day operations, but its just not happening.

hi, I read this thread with interest. I assume most people on here are at heart environmentalists. Poison, for all it's benefits really goes against humane and environmental ideals.
The Goodnature traps are a quality alternative to poison. Used sensibly and deployed with thought, the goodnature traps are effective humane rodent control measure. Limiting the use of poison and reducing time spent on rodent control.
