Are they BOC?
They never belonged to you, only rented. Take them back to agent.
And answer some difficult questions, I know someone who took cylinders that he didn't have an account for back to BOC and they threatened to prosecute him although nothing happened, but he did sweat for a while.

I've sent lots of bottle that have been acquired over the years back. When they run out just phone the company BOC, air products, air liquide etc and they come and collect them for free. I've never had to answer any questions

As above, I had an Air Products and a BOC cylinder that I no longer needed. I wasn't paying rent for them as they had been left at the farm several years ago. A phone call to each company saw them collected a few months ago.

I have 3, 47kg. Calor propane bottles to get rid of. I understand that they will pay £7.50 each for them if delivered to one of their depots. For me that is a 50 mile round trip with the car and trailer, so at the moment they are placed near my yard entrance, in view from the road. Perhaps a caravan dweller with a transit pickup might take them away.

£7.50 doesn't sound a lot, it costs £59.99 initially, it claims you can only get a partial refund, but that's taking the pee a bit.

Like a good many more organisations, BOC would like you to think they have police powers... which they don't.
Take them back to any depot and leave them there, admit nothing and affect an Irish accent if needs be.
Local Energas depot has never been proud, he would accept anything.

Advertise the propane bottles on Facebook for £10 each.

They'll soon sell

i know its not right, but.....

i had a similar problem here, two acet bottles (old style) and boy could i not get rid of them, they were like a pair of white elephants, the word was out at the time about boc not being too impressed if you brought em back with no account so i didnt go askin tbh as the local boc crowd are odd to say the least.
my scrappie wouldnt touch them, nobody else wanted them so i decided to advertise the pair of them for 50 quid and sure enough 10 days later a lad lands and buys them.
he went out the gate doing his best impression of a Cheshire cat and i wished him the best of luck with em.(y)
