Cochisine is evil. You take it until the pain goes or you get, a upset stomach then you stop. And keep repeating until pain has gone .
Go to your doctor and get him to prescribe Allopurinol. Does not cure it but prevents it. I take 2 tablets every day and have not had an attack since I have been on it in maybe the last 4 years

I get it on the balls of my feet, usually only one at a time.
I find it very much related to foods and beers with particular types of dye in them, added or natural. Things that are dark dyed especially cause me a problem. Its why I am very careful about the real ales I consume.
I find quite often the things that give me heartburn result in Gout.
It is a build up of Uric acid crystals so for both reasons I consume Refresher sweets (bicarb of soda). Cures the heartburn quickly and reduces the gout but is better being proactive than reactive.
I dislike taking any drugs so prefer the Bicarb of soda route.
Keep a diary of what you are eating and drinking especially anything dark and you will know what to avoid. For instance Edinburgh Gold beer, nice pint very drinkable but to me Gout central.
