Government Policy towards net Zero

It's a hell of a lot more logical than relying on wind and solar.

I like them. Best tele on the box recently was “Chernobyl”

Anyway, we should be looking much more seriously at hydrogen as fuel for automotives than electric and nuclear fusion as the ultimate in renewable

But no, the government are going down the rabbit hole of carbon capture and storage.

Fantastic

That seems a logical way forward but seeing as nuclear power stations have 24/7 armed guards, that will be a lot of guarding ... plus servicing etc

Easier to run than an AD plant though

Was thinking the same. The chances of getting a looney in charge or a terrorist gaining access expands ....

Yes. I thought similar with just the fact they are going to tax Gas and ban Gas boilers - with the cheapest alternative being £10,000

There's 25,000,000 gas boilers so the minimum public spend will be £250 Billion. So we can "Show the rest of the world how it's done".

I think most people will not agree and will vote accordingly.
This idea of using heat pumps has definitely not been thought through. Fact - modern day household gas boilers are +95% efficient,
next - heat pumps use electricity and, from what i understand, modern, gas power stations are only 50%- 55% efficient.

It’s going to need a lot of SMR’s to supply the Electricity to run all of Boris’s fantasies.

And how much of that 10% is offset by the farming countryside, after all if buying a few acres & planting a few trees can offset a large polluting business then the total UK’s farmland must offset all that 10% completely

Quite. How anyone can think that 1% of the population waving their arms in the air shouting "Look at us, we produce 10% of all UK GHG emissions" is either factual or a good idea, is a complete muppet.

Is their no mention of cows in this document then ? Nothing about belched methane ? Cutting livestock numbers ?

I don.t think the practicalities of many of the ideas in paper have been thought about to much, just a show piece for coming summit .

Its seems a vague plan for Agriculture apart from a we are going to plant trees, I am not sure which uk folk will be wanting to be tree planters, Visa for oversees workers to plant trees to make us feel good.Sounds maybe more of a sub for carbon capture crops like micanthus . pp carbon capture benefits not recognised still.

Was talking to a chap the other day who's just bought a house with an air source heat pump already installed.
His smart meter tells him it's costing £4/day in electricity.

Do you know is that figure for the whole house including the heat pump or just the pump alone?

I'm not 100% sure to be honest, we were talking about heat pumps and that's what he said.
I think he also said that the RHI payment was about £300/ quarter.

I think probably if you were building a new house you would think seriously about it but to expect hundreds of thousands of these far from pretty & quiet things to be plonked by the side of existing houses that are not up to speck with whats needed is living in la la land as Bozo often is!

But it's 10% of the GHG which allows the other 99% of the population to go about their daily lives creating the other 90% of the GHG's.

Farmers would be better if they stopped the production of food, it would save their 10% of emmisions and a good proportion of the 90% too.

Cutting meat consumption is a government policy as of now. How well has the meat industry prepared for this? Livestock producers need to face up to accounting accurately for all associated emissions without that data countering the “factory protein” argument Johnson was promoting will be very difficult.
