Govt Ethics adviser resigns

So after a few days of will he, won't he, Lord Giedt resigned.

Well, we all know that the thought of morality or ethics,in Govt or in private life, is an anathema to Bojo and a fair number of the Cabinet, so it must have been a thankless job at the best of times. But what a pity that instead of slipping off into the night, Geidt did not come out and say what he really thought??

Thats a few £ off the budget, hopefully not to be replaced. A widespread cull of "advisers" needs to take place throughout the public sector and in all likelihood parts of the private sector as well.
When I finally had enough of being a Parish Cllr the back page of the monthly minutes that listed all the regulations the decisions conformed to was nearly as long as the minutes themselves. In the space of 20 years we went from employing one person for 10 hours a week to be the clerk including the accounts to a clerk, a deputy clerk a finacial officer and a compliance officer, total hours between them around 50 per week. Admittedly our population had increased by 30% but that doesn't justify the 5 fold increase in admin. Over 50% of our budget was going on salaries.
In the case of the Govt there are so mnay advisers the staff at No 10 has increased something like 4 fold since Maggies time there.

What ever was the point of a No 10 ethics adviser ? true blue tories wouldn't care and Labour/Lib Dems wouldn't believe the adviser if they said everything was ok.

A good friend who at one stage was the leader of a district council had strong views on appointments of this type, he would be told that he needed to listen and take note of every campaigning body/person in sight. His reply was that if they didn't like his policies he could talk to them all week and it would make no difference they would still vote for the opposition at the next election, meanwhile he would be alienating his core voters. I know he went to No10 quite a few times and tried to get his message over to David Cameron, message wasn't understood, result Cameron backed wrong horse and resigned.

Isn't the art of politics to get those who don't agree with you to support you at the ballot box. Otherwise unless the majority agree with you you end up losing at every election? I believe it is called centrism. AKA weak and wishy washy by hard cores of left and right. Hey ho.

You can influence the centre, the centre however rarely complain, rarely campaign. The people who loudly express their opinions and lobby politicians have no intention of changing their stance they want the politician to alter. It happens both sides of the spectrum, the left will never vote right nor the right left. The largest anti Labour march I can recall was the countryside alliance, if Blair had abandoned his hunting bill nit one of them would have voted for him at the next election
