Can you get a phone app that will help with marking bouts for p/h / mower instead of using your judgment /guesstimate needn't be inch accurate , just a decent guide .

I have researched GPS app's for phones/tablets and came up with nothing a couple of months ago and doubt there is anything out there now either. GPS receivers on mobile devices are probably not accurate enough on there own but im sure someone could make an external antenna plug into an ipad for example, then all that's needed is the app. Whoever does finally get round to it will make a fortune I would think! £400 for an ipad and say £200 for a GPS app plus the antenna is still much cheaper than £2-3k (rough estimate) for a screen on its own from Trimble, Topcon etc. No doubt there would still be unlock costs to obtain greater accuracy levels etc to up the price but a lot more farmers would be able to get into GPS and precision farming. Its got to come sooner rather than later?

GPS receivers in mobile phones and standard car sat navs are not accurate enough for field guidance. A GPS signal is only actually accurate to approx 12 meters, which is why we need to use a correction source to improve this down to a 'useable' degree.

Sat navs appear more accurate because they have a road map within and assume that you will be somewhere on that map, but if you go to a territory unknown, you will see it jump and hop around like crazy in a blind panic that it doesn't actually know where you are after all! Even if you miss a junction on the motorway, for a few seconds it will assume you have taken it!

Until a phone comes out with the ability to speak to a correction source such as EGNOS, you are bang out of luck I'm afraid.

That's why a mojo mini, x14 or similar are up around the 1000 quid mark, but one of them would do the job.

There are people on here who offer such products so I guess we should let the plugging commence! ;)

You can use a matchbox sized Bluetooth receiver like a qstarz 10hz model. For £50 it provides similar accuracy to a patch antenna.

There's software called guidomat from www.satcon.de, around £80. It runs on Windows pocket pc such as hp ipaq214, and should work on Windows smartphones assuming downward compatability.

For Android there's an app called a_cerea_v1 that allows Bluetooth communication with an external gps receiver.

However there I can't find an app that makes use of this!

There is an android app called farm sprayer gps which marks out bouts and areas. However it uses the internal gps.

I've contacted the developer of the latter to see if they can incorporate the app to use the necessary external signal in order that there is an acceptable level of accuracy.

So far no joy.

What's one of them ? i pad ?
Sorry Bob, should have explained better. Apple make the Ipad/Iphone/Ipod and these all use the Apple operating system (OS). So only apps made for this OS will work with them.

The Farm Spray GPS app is made for the Android OS. Samsung, Google and many others use this OS on their phones and tablets.

Hope this helps!
