Situation Vacant Grain Store Manager Vacancy - Oakley, Buckinghamshire

L F Pearce & Son are arable farmers and agricultural contractors running modern and up to date machinery based in Oakley, Buckinghamshire. We can store up to 10,000 tonnes of crop on site at any one time. We store for a range of merchants and farmers locally. Farmers and hauliers deliver to the site, where the crop is assessed for moisture, cleanliness and conditioned as required. We offer cleaning, colour sorting, bug treatment and drying for grain merchants and farmers. We offer a lively place to work, with a great chance to gain a huge amount of experience in all aspects of crop production from field to mill.

Job Description
The candidate would be responsible for the day to day running of a modern 10,000 tonne grain store.

Duties to include:
  • Weighing in and sampling of lorries
  • Testing of commodities and logging data on grain store software computer system
  • Operating two intake pits leading to a cleaner, drier and the grain stores.
  • Operating the colour sorter
  • Liaising with grain merchants and hauliers
  • Loading lorries with a telescopic handler
  • Cleaning the store prior to and during harvest
  • Rodent control and baiting
  • Temperature and condition checking of crops
  • General upkeep of grain equipment and tidiness of yard areas
  • Audit preparation and paperwork
  • General farm work as required
Candidate abilities:
The candidate would need to be fit, have good people skills and show good communication between all parties with a polite telephone manner. To be able to remain calm and focused, and to be able to work under pressure is a necessity when multiple lorries arrive simultaneously. It is important that the candidate is a team player with enthusiasm to muck in and learn new techniques, along with inputting ideas to help the operation run smoother. It is key that the candidate can maintain tidiness and has an attention to detail. Good computer skills are essential along with a willingness to work long hours and weekend when required and during the busy season. Some arable farming knowledge would be beneficial. Full training will be given along with accredited training going forward.

Salary negotiable dependent upon experience. This is a full time PAYE position.
