Grand Solar Minimum

Hello all.

Firstly i'd like to start by stating iam not a farmer and merely here out of interest in something ive been monitoring lately.

I live in central Scotland and like everyone else cant help but notice how cold and wet our spring is. Anyway my point is this, having noticed the amount of snow and cold wet weather weve been experiencing i decided to go online and look into a phenomenon known as the Grand Solar Minimum and basically found that there appears to be some hard science at play here and indeed some believe we could be headed into a new ice age. This cold snap is expected to severely affect the northern hemisphere and some forecasters say it could last 50 years with food production becoming a real problem.

Im basically wondering if anyone from the farming community is aware of this event or experiencing problems at present. Are crops late? Has your Winter wheat been effected etc..

Many Thanks GSM

I was made aware of it the other week. Solar cycle 25. Sun spots. 25 year cooling period.

seems the russians are predicting a return to something like the maunder minimum of the early 1600's where the Thames regularly froze over and crops failed year after year. Indeed during this time the English civil war raged and if you read the accounts many of the battles had to be fought during extremely bad weather. My fear is that with the planet trying to support a population of 7 billion things could become tricky.

See David DuByne/Adapt 2030 on You tube. Solar minima occur every 11 years but every 200-odd they resonate/build into a GSM. Lack of solar activity lets in more rays from the cosmos which increase cloud cover (among other things) - plenty of evidence of this now. Other predictions about massive crop losses - we'll have to wait and see.

(Expect Old McDonald to come storming in spitting feathers now)

Ive been following Adapt2030 for sometime now, I'm also reading John Caseys book 'Dark Winter'.

Even a Dalton minimum type of cooling will have a massive impact on how we live and how we grow our food... The milankovitch cycle appears to be a factor this time around aswell

Oh well that's cheered me up no end!:((n):nailbiting:

@jondear don’t panic, when I became aware that we might be about to enter a new ice age I started to look for a short bit of rope but when I couldn’t find a bit I instead decided to consult my book on the agricultural records since AD 200. In both the Maunder and Spooner minimums they quite often had some decent summers. I came to the conclusion that a few good summers and cold winters that froze the Thames for a few months might actually be very good for my hay and straw business.

i'm not here as someone to spread fear and panic and personally I would love to be in a farmers position as anything you do produce will be worth a fortune. Supply and demand, people NEED food as you good folk will know better than myself as thats your business. This does however worry quite abit hense the reason ive joined this forum. People have adapted in the past and humanity has survived and prospered. The facts are hard to argue with though and Al Gore lied to us, we re not heating up we re getting wetter and cooler. Im not a farmer but if you cant grow wheat or whatever then you'll just grow something else or farm a different way. We had a couple of bad spells between Christmas and now and look how crazy the shops and the streets got. That didnt just happen in the UK. And indeed a few hours infront of youtube watching other accounts then the picture is pretty clear. Aside from a few half decent days last year, we never really had much of a summer. Look how late springs is. The grass hasnt even started in my garden yet.

This event will impact the entire northern hemisphere, theres not much south of equator really so all the major food producing belts across the world will be severely impacted. Thats whats always happened in the past and it will continue to happen. Its earth's natural state. We as a species adapt to the planet, thats just abother part the politicians have got wrong

Been following this for a few years now and reckon Gore should have got to share a cell with a big guy named maralyn for fraud.
The flip flop evangelists will not discuss rationally what is happening.
Antartic has 30% more ice than 10 years ago, deeper and wider round the other side which is all being quoted as breaking up. Penquins having to travel further in worse weather and not being able to rear their chicks.
Artic ice is thinning but world has max 3 degree tilt on so is pointing more to sun hence the good auroras. Claims about cruise ships navigating the channel along top of Canada. Tried it in kayaks two years ago but got iced in after 20 miles.
Minus 25c up there just now so don't think it will melt that quick.
Vikings took cattle to Groenland on long boats for summer grazing, we call it Greenland.
If you think that ice skating on the Thames in 2035/40 is depressing remember that in our journey round the cosmos we are re entering the asteroid belt that nailed the dinosaurs at that time. The asteroid that landed on the steppes last year and killed a few sheep would have had a much bigger effect if it had landed on a capital city.
I have already made my plans to at least winter in Portugal to escape this global warming we are experiencing.

I remember in the 70's we were told that we were in a cooling period, as these sun events seem to wotk on a reasonably predictable pattern why havent the climate change bods properly accounted for their effect
