Grant spec cattle handling system

They would work, but how would you shut each gate without going in with them? A series of pull ropes could work? It’s a lot more gates to get hurt by if one gets kicked if you have to go in to shut the gates?
start from in the alley between pens and race, walking behind the gate as it hinges round to touch the existing building. (I wouldn't have a fence on the outside of this gate, the 1st post nearest the front of the crush would have 2 gates on so that after you are say 2 pens down the race it can be used to create a pen at the back of them. worst case imo is if as your pushing gate in cows shove back but all it should do is push you back until it touches the post making the gate parallel to the race. (I should number the post/set a grid out for description!)

first shows my lift in temporary race that I currently use
2nd shows how it is relative to shed and how my new race would fit in.
(front of shed is diagonal hinged barrier, not many drawn on)
tried to show a few radius's of how gates swing etc
in that little pen on pic 1 I do get 25 stores or cows in but you cant move the gates there that tight.

I haven't read all your posts in detail but would it be of any use if you had the forcing gate swing the full 360, that way you won't have to open it back into where the next group of cattle are standing. You would need three forcing gates on the one post for it to work.

I have considered that, it is 1 way forewords do you think they would peel away from the group easily though?

When you say peel away from the group, do you mean the cattle would peel away from the group
well what I mean is when you have the cattle in the pen and your trying to get say 5 around the forcing gate will they split off or will the whole lot try going then run back once you've worked the first couple.

Sorry a bit late to the thread here, we just installed a grant funded handling system last year in a lean too 100 x 20, I've attached the sketch of our layout and IAE's sample but will have the layout drawings somewhere. Definitely if you can get the cattle to enter the race on their own free will makes life a lot easier and safer. Also we now tend to under fill the pens I find it easier to work the cattle with some space than all cramped up into the pens stacked four high. We work shed to shed so the most we've had through it at once was 35 sucklers but I reckon you could get a fair few more as soon as you start working through them you gain more exit pens to work with.

Has anyone had a price on a fixed cattle handling system as in MGS6930’s post?

Looking at a quote today, without crush, surprisingly bang on the grant assumed amount!

Pros are that it is a British firm and great local distributor.

Cheers.

@Raynard for that setup minus the crush but with four additional pens ahead of the crush, a raised walkway along the race and two fully sheeted gates to one gable we were just a smidge above ten.

What was yours in comparison ?.

IAE aren't taking orders for these after today apparently.

Not sure if it's just salesman pressure or the truth but I've just ordered one.
